When I read the Star Trek novel Starfleet Year One. I remember the description of the vessel. Here is the basic 3D design structure of the Christopher class starship.
My idea was way different, but yours is lookin' way closer to the book, a flask with nacelles attached... though for some reason, I kept thinking an actual flask, with that curved shape. Like someone took their father's old flash and stuck nacelle wings to the sides (I should do a quick doodle of it).
Definitely getting a TOS vibe from the design, interested to see where it'll go.
Thanks since I even have the book that I got at my local bookstore in Texas, it was a good read. They even served as a temporary fleet before they built or retro-fitted the U.S.S. Deadalus which is famous for it's class of star-ship will be built after they win the war against the Romulans, and stop another from attacking star bases in the Orias system.
Did some more before heading the captains quarters. I did some modifications on the Primary hull at the bow section of the ship, where the deflector dish will be placed into. I changed the color of the texture to make have a clay rendered look.
Did some more modifying of this star-ship, with the impulse crystal and the impulse engine. Did some minor changes in the warp nacelles. I'll need to add something to back ends to make this look Post-Romulan war and Pre-TOS. Stretched the bow-section of where the deflector dish in located.
Did some more work on the impulse engine crystal. I wonder if there have starships that had two. The Enterprise vessels always had one impulse engine.
I modified the rear of the primary hull and added a sphere and modified the top separated the part of the top of the sphere and smoothed the rest of the sphere. I may need to shrink this down a bit. There's some more for another post in this thread.
Made some more changes to the double impulse engines. I shrank the bottom of ventral impulse engine to be designed against evading weapons fire. As for some renders. More coming in since I took lots of rendered images.
Added the deflector dish and added some more detail with the primary hull. Now creating the bridge details added some back details on the nacelles. More to come.
Modification of the Primary Hull, and some modification of the deflector compartment. A side-view of the modified ship I created in 3D, looks much better now.
Some dorsal views of the Christopher class vessel, with it's new modification and some of the beginning construction of the bridge, along with the impulse crystal, and the impulse engines.
I love it. You know, having a nose that would fit with the port saucer main gangway hatch--giving the Christopher a chisel nose look, might be in order for a refit version.

Are to talking about the hatch like the NX-01's rim frame, where the ship can dock with even a pre-bird of prey, and other NX-Era ships?

Now that I can finally add my photos to my replies, here's some more work and added some sub-surfs. I even added some color to the bussard collectors, but I'll need to change to opacity a bit, because it's too glassy.

At first I didn't know what you were talking about, but now I seem to understand. Let me take a look at my CGI model and see where I can place it at the side of the ship. I've been trying to figure out how to create a UV texture map in Blender since I haven't use it in a while, until getting back on some small projects.
I added a docking port on the side of the ship, then I realized that the nacelle is a bit to close to the nacelle, so I moved it back a bit so the gangway can retract and dock with another Christopher class vessel. I also created another variant. I added some UV texture to the 1st variant on the nacelles.
The Christopher class Starship is looking good. I tried out a render using a background of a planet with a moon orbiting around it, and pushed back the retractable docking port into the primary hull of the ship. Ready for the STOL 2016 Calendar.
I retracted the docking bay back into the main-hull of the Christopher class vessel. I changed the background and added a plane in the scene which is now switch to another layer.
500 dollars here I go, which one is real beauty to be submitted for the Calendar. Added another vessel which is being attacked by a bunch of Christopher's.

Like the Playstation 4 consoles. From the looks of the primary hulll, it looks like one, but just a bit.

Thanks Vortex5972, it's looking really good from what I'm seeing with my uploads.
