getting rendered footage to match movie footage

bit of advice needed here. I'm needing some rendered footage to match star wars footage.

I'm using lightwave 8 and need a bit of advice to make sure what I render can sit alongside the star wars footage.

camera settings

PAL widescreen set as 720 x 430 (ie minus black bars) zoom 3.2 pixels ratio 1.422 as standard

however, I'm sure I remember reading once that actual film stock, when scanned has a very high resolution, something like 4000 x 3000 if I remember correctly so I obviously need to render my movie higher than a plain 720 x 430 before converting it down to fit to give it the sufficient quality.

but can anyone advise me what depth of field or fstop settings might be good and what sort of res should I render at?

I'm thinking 1440 x 860 and then post process it down.

From my own personal experiance rendering it out at double works But you do lose some of the res when you scale it back down. (as far as i know there is no way round this) So yes doing it that way will get (for the most part) the desired effect.
