MAX to Blender

How can I import a .max file into Blender? I once saw a python script for it on blender.org but they said it was packaged with the latest version of Blender (which is not true) so they didn't have the link. I've searched Google and asked on other forums but haven't been able to find anything.

you could just export whatever model you want out of max as a .3ds and import it into blender, i think blender can import 3ds format, but im not 100%

Blender can import .3ds files but I don't have the MAX demo to convert them (It is too large to download on dial-up).

I hear you on that. I have dialup also.

Unfortunately, .max is one of the most unusable formats outside of its app. You might want to try Polytrans or Deep Exploration (I think that's what it's called.) to convert it to whatever format you need. Unfortunately, most of the free converters don't do .max format, but DE has a fully functional 30 day demo that might be able to import it. (haven't really read about it that much.)

Do you have any links to them? Can Polytrans import max files?
