Hey, guys! I recently finished a 3d model of a custom Mon Calamari Cruiser - and I've made the source files available!
The original model was an effort between Ansel Hsaio and I to come up with a method of wrapping complex details around curved surfaces. Without that method working, this sort of model would take an immense amount of time to complete - instead, it only took approx 20 hrs of time to make... and now that I have the greebles and source, I could bang another one out in a quarter of that time.

It's in 3dsMax 2012 format (Built in 2015) and has no textures. I've included the plugins I used (in 2015 format), and there are two versions - the finished ship, and the ship still in un-flattened stack construction version. This one has some boxes around the ship - if you select one of those, and set the Morpher modifier to 0%, it will unwrap the surface details flat, and you can see how I set everything up. It also contains all the greebles I made for this in easy to view and layout form. I'd love to see any art you guys make with this, but most of all, I hope you enjoy it.

Ok - the voxels are super slow to render on my quad core - is that normal? I know next to nothing about voxels. :) What purpose to they serve in this type of setup?

I only had 10 minutes to play with the finished version this evening and did have time to sort out the missing plugins (warp and advdirt, I believe). Looks super impressive but damn that render time is a killer. :)

    Thanks for sharing, Howard!

I always wanted to see a huge secondary hull for a Trek ship with that kind of looks--with a cluster of detailed dish antenna in the nose and multi-layered shuttlebays on a fantail that just kept stepping up and out--like an upside down ziggurat
