Minecraft for 3d modeling?

Ok everyone, I just have a quick question to present to the group. Could work done within the game Minecraft be considered 3d modeling? I know that it is originally a game, but the creations that people can do it can be fascinating to look at. Also work that is created in Minecraft can be exported to a 3D printer.
The reason as to why I am asking because I have had the idea to create a life size model of some star ships with in the game. There are some details that I would like some critique so i just wanted to get the opinion of the forum if this is work that could be posted in the work in progress forums. It would be great if I could, but not a big if it is not seen as fitting to this forum.
