Self Luminent Materials terminiology question

In the setting for a self illuminated material what does adjusting the efficiency do? This is in kerkythea but I would imagine most applications have this in some form or another..

there is an emit option in blender to make materials glow, in blender there is no efficiency option. my advice is to try altering the efficiecny between some really high and low values then rendering to see the result.
