Hi all,

Well my Astromech fascination continues (in between other projects), and although "almost" finished, here is R5D4 :)

And another shot below showing more detail starting to be added.

Thanks for viewing,

Wiz.

Wow that's terrific! This guy doesn't get nearly enough love! If he didn't have a bad motivator, Luke doesn't learn about the force, join the rebellion, blow up the first Death Star, or become a Jedi! Probably. :)

I've always liked this guy, nice to see him get the attention that he deserves - excellent work!

Damn, dude. That looks like a photo.

I've always liked the R5 droids, even if they were the "lemons" of the astromechs. ;) What are the chances of you doing an original trilogy R4 unit? I think they have cool "heads."

@Stonky; thanks matey, yep R5 is a true unsung hero; also I am pretty sure I read (or it may have been in one of the radio drama's) that R5 blew his motivator on purpose as R2 as told him about his mission and that he needed to be picked so R5 made the ultimate sacrifice,... (god bless his motivator).

@Jas; hehe thanks, and yep will get a higher res version soon :) (with a dodgy motivator ;))

@evil; R4, yep definitely, I am doing a number of droids for the R2Builders club, and he is on the list :)

Thanks matey, and its all about the imperfections that make something feel real (or as real as we can currently get it ;)).

Absolutely cracking work as ever mate. Loving the level of detailing and weathering you're getting in there.

I'd applaud, if only I could see past the artefacts. Real men render in 4K.

Oh yes, I would like to join class, if there is one.
Oh and did you ever consider to build T3-M4 or the modell from The Old Republic? Would love to see one made with your skills.

You can thank Mr. Verta for that, he pushed me originally (way back on Artoo) and learned a lot from watching his progress :)

But it all starts with a simple base of low ambient dirt and then layers of differing dirt types on top, and most importantly is adding the dirt in the right places (in areas it would gather, skuff marks on edges and moving parts etc.); you can have a lot of dirt on a model but if its not placed right then it looks off and is not convincing, and a lot of times less is better :)

After my current set of projects I fancied the Black Hole robots next, but T3 is now added to the list also :)

Great work, as always. He looks dirty, like a utility droid should.
