3dsmax 2012 How to make carpet Bordering?

I seen so far some nice work I did some carpet bordering but only one time by using the spine but it was a messy there were extra vertex's all over the place so I like to learn how to make the carpet Border the right way if ya guys know how to do it please.
I have seen IRML's work on his carpeting like the textures wonder were to get those but I know I can't get his help since his work is in lightwave.
So any of ya guys can help make the carpet bordering in 3dsmax?
