win 7 / 3dmax on an imac

L2KL2K0 Posts: 0Member
hi folk.

today, i need to install win7 on an imac.
the tricky part is that none of the 2 "classic" solutions seem to work.
neighter the bootcamp nor the parallel desktop.
the system is made with a special mac partition with some backup items, that forbids me to make my bootcamp. and it seems that only a total sweep can get rid of it. (wich is not an option),and the parallel desktop just doesnt works as expected. windows is on, but i'm unable to launch the backburner.

if anyone of you has an idea, i'll hear it gladly :),
thx for your time

I'm afraid I'm at a loss myself... what are the system specs of the iMac?
    AMD Ryzen 9 5900X
Gigabyte RTX 3080 Gaming OC 12GB
    1TB NVMe SSD, 2 x 1GB SATA SSD, 4TB external HDD
    32 GB RAM
    Windows 11 Pro

I don't intend for this to sound mean or anything, but have you tried a Mac forum or a computer tech forum? I mean, we're artists here. I'm sure there are plenty of people here who know computers, but if you go to a forum that specializes in this sort of thing, you might get better/quicker responses. Just a friendly suggestion.

Personally, I can't help you. I know PCs fairly well but I don't know Macs.

i posted it a bit everywhere ;). i cant spit on a good idea.

well, i partially fixed the problem.
i installed windows on the mac pro on a brand new hard drive, and it seems to work.
but i cant do that on the imac, cause it cant be opened (the whole computer is behind the screen, in that nice aluminium case)

You could try setting up VMware Player, which is free, to run Windows... I mean, you'd be limited as to your virtual machines specs, since you can't dual boot, if I read your first post correctly.

Which is why I'm not particularly fond of AIO's

One proven method (the method that I use for software development), is to install the freely available VirtualBox - originally Sun, now under Oracle. Allows Windows in a window, full screen or seamless mode where both Mac and Windows run in the same desk space.

well, i know people who play games using a virtual machine, and its fine. most imacs use an nvidia card, and the drivers are good.
its not as good as a playstation or a gaming pc thou.

lol, yes, All in one, however, I tend to pick up a lot of the tech talk on youtube... I'm a big habit forming person... and AIO is one of those habits.

One could just run Windows on the iMac, and it'd be more than capable of gaming... I've seen people play Crysis on an iMac, rather nicely.

Many assume it's the system that's the problem, but it's really the OS...
