hello SFM i thought id start a new thread so i can keep all my blackhips stuff together in one thread.
i should give some background on the series.
"The Blackships" is a project ive had rattling around in my head since i was at college but ive only recently started working on getting it down on paper as such. the basic idea is an entire mock world, tech specs, field reports, crew logs, videos, 3d models, recording the mission and expansion of a group of humans who decided that the bickering nations on earth were just holding everyone back and decided to leave.
This i always planed to be a huge mockumentry style project covering aproxamatly 100 years of the future from many different perspectives.

on SFM i will be posting my 3d work and please be aware that im still very new to 3d work so bear with me please.

first up is the "hero" ship the Oddessy in its original format that i posted in my old thread.


but i wasn't happy with it so i started again so here is the new oddy

well a brief explanation.
it all starts in 2012 when a major riot in the uk during the olympics causes the death of over 200 people by the police makes the original 26 members form the "non Aligned Alliance of Mankind" with the idea of creating a group of people who want no connection to nations and their belifes and who want a simpler system removing the complication from government.
for a year not much happens as the group trys to spread the word and proposed ideas until they are conntacted by an unknown party wishing to offer funds to accelerated the Alliances goals.

fast forward around 10 years and the Alliance has built the Oddessy with its original mission to travel to Mars and televise the whole event, to give the world somthing to lookforward to and follow rather then following the news on the myriad of wars accross the world.(such as civilwars in China, Africa, and the US)
what follows is a story of exploration,war,aliens,treachery and space.
and another old ship is the Ryl'Au'Shar heavy cruiser Alliance codename "lancer"


and her counterpart ship alliance codename hedgehog is an anti light cruiser support ship.

The Acharon class Cruiser mainstay of the Yy'ktor (evil xenophobic aliens) fleet.
Smaller then the Lancer cruiser of the Ryl'au'shar fleet and nowere close to a match they have to resort to picking off straglers and already damaged vessels and flying in larger packs.
At 650m long it still dwarfs any human vessel is use at the time of Yy'ktor's war against the Ryl'au'shar(1996-2044AD).

16 Qual'a cannons for ship to ship combat
4 Joshuuah proton cannons
26 point defense missle tubes
level 3 quantum phase shields
40mm Tungsten-obruium armour plates

removed most of the weapons in lue of a large missle collar that is used to deny large areas of space to the enemy. capable of taking out whole squadrons of light cruisers or frigates this ship forces fleet commanders to spread the ships out to avoid massiev loses which makes them prey to the regular Acharons or the smaller fox class escort ship.

Excellent Modeling work! I like your concepts so far. Having a little trouble understanding the scale of these ships. And on this post, I don't understand the need of the EVA ladders or the skids. Certainly, at this technological level there would be no need for such things, right? (Just asking ). The ship should be able to perform precision landings and only require sturdy landing gears, especially for a vessel of this size. Also, EVA would only need grappling tethers and thruster packs. I think you may be trying to add some visual interest, but I think texture and post-lighting work will add a better look along the skin of these vessels.

the odessey is around 320M long so if you look at the comparrisons above you can kind of see the size. the reason that she has EVA ladders and landing skids is because the idea is that the ship would be possible to be built now if we had the funding and DIDN'T have the polotics bickering if it was worth the cost so not jet packs in space ect also they are used when the ship has landed.

OK, I see your point. It still seems like a lot of vessel to set down planet-side. I figured the gravitational issue had been solved, in your view, since all decks seem flat and the EVA would be slightly different with "..invention be the mother of necessity". All is looking good, then. Looking forward to see your refinements.

we had a little help with the oddy when we first built it she wasn't designed to enter and exit atmo often until it was upgraded by a group of aliens we met. they gave us alot of "old" technology think us nowadays giving flintlock firearms to cavemen now she has enough power and integrity to fly in and out all day long
