with this new Max program 2010 I noticed that when I select a polygon face of a object to apply a color the Entire object becomes one color instead of the polygon face, how can I fix that?....

    Open the documentation and read up on the following entries:
    1. Material/Map Browser -> Multi/Sub-Object
    2. and in Editable Poly (Polygon/Element) the section titled Polygon: Material IDs rollout

    Star_creations: In my experience that happens only when you are working on an object with an "Editable Poly" Modifier applied to it, and are doing the selecting in the modifier.

    If you collapse to an editable Poly object, you can select polygons and assign materials to them just fine, this is has been the same for some time and hasn't changed in Max 2010 or 2011 :)

    set up polygon ids and multi sub object material instead of drang and drop.
    cleaner and less errors
