Well, I couldn't resist trying to model a ship named after my home city:D. So, I've started modeling this great Bernd Schneider's design:

What do you guys think?

    The modelling is quite nice!

The design however...is very TNG-ish, but then I suppose that's the point :D

Your model is coming along nicely. Looking forward to more...

I have seen this first long time ago at Bernd's site. Cool that this class will be now more than a flat pic! :)

    Looking great so far!

I'm from Buenos Aires too ;-)

Melak: Thanks, :D indeed, that's the point, a ship comissioned right before the Ent-D.
    TrekMD: Thank you!
KmprA’rak: Most of Bernd's designs are very cool and deserve to be more than flat pic, I picked up this one because of the name, but I wanted to make one of his ships my next project anyway.
    Atlantean: Thanks! (o deberA-a decir gracias? :)).

The top saucer is completely finished except for the impulse engines (wich are proving to be quite hard to model:D), so I'm moving to the bottom. As the flat part doesn't apear in the schematics, I'm desiging this part myself (asking Bernd for opinions and final aproval, of course) What I wanted to do here is to take some ideas from the Excelsior, Ambassador and Galaxy and combine them. Here is what I have so far, the registry number goes right in front of the big window, it the empty space left there. BuenosAires14.jpg
Coments and particulary critics in this part are very welcome.:D

You can have a refit that features a yacht, and the original that lacks it and has a standard sensor dome. That is a strong looking saucer. Perhapes you could call it the USS Borges

Thanks! Well, after I finish this one, I was going to make an "NX" version with a sensor dome and diferent nacelles, among other changes, as shown in Bernd's original schematics from 1995. I was actually gonna call the yacht Borges.:D

Added navigational lights and made the windows real openings instead of just textures.

  • Kmpr´rakKmpr´rak171 Posts: 12Member
Looking really forward for the final result!!!!! :o

elitewolverine: I'm doing it as high poly as I can, however I can't do too much :D, the current poly count is 86.000.
    Kmpr'rak: thanks, me too.:D

The other day I was in my father's home, and I started doing some modeling on his PC, wich isn't very powerful, so I couldn't work on the ship. So I started modeling a bridge, wich now, with Bernd's approval is the Buenos Aires' bridge:

    BsAsBridge2.jpg
Very unfinished, this will literally be my weekend project, while I'll work on the ship when I'm at home.

Quoting calamity_si, unperturbed by the lack of response, I continue working on the ship, this time the bridge:
Basically I've been doing the OPS/CONN console the whole sunday. I've decided to use small chairs on them, like on the Enterprise-B, instead of the bigger ones generally used on all the 24th century ships, not sure about this though, may change it in the future.
On another note, I've finally watched a tutorial for using textures, so, when I'll finish the ship it will have a real metalic hull and everything, don't expect an aztec pattern though.

I didn't realize the ship had 4 impulse engines. Interesting. The work is coming along nicely.
  • RekkertRekkert4046 Buenos Aires, ArgentinaPosts: 2,304Member
Thanks TrekMD! Originaly Bernd didn't even design those engines, so I had some liberties doing them.
Been experimenting with textures, please tell me what you guys think:

This ship is coming along nicely, i dont know much about the history of this class of ship, but for me i can see it being a very early 24th Century Starfleet Vessal that would lead into the Ambassador Class

Very nice ! Keep the updates coming. ;)
  • RekkertRekkert4046 Buenos Aires, ArgentinaPosts: 2,304Member
Thank you guys! The ship is from the year 2360, only a couple of years before the Galaxy class. It does still have some design elements from TMP era ships though.

It is cool you made in some thoughts about the engines.
I like your idea, it is a great ship and a fantastic artwork! :)
  • RekkertRekkert4046 Buenos Aires, ArgentinaPosts: 2,304Member
    Thanks KmprA’rak!
I've redone the neck, and added the main impulse engine, according to Bernd, the secondary impulse engines are usually offline like the ones on the Ent-D, I would prefer to have them online as on the Ent-B, but, well, he is the designer.
