Just got an urge to model some EXOSquad stuff. This has to be one of my favorite childhood shows of all time, and had to be the first Saturday morning cartoon (if you can call it that) that I recall killing off main characters and being extreamly dark and gritty. Any way I'm starting with the Resolute, but I plan to model a couple of Terran and Neosapian millitary ships.

More, From here on in I'm going to take some artistic liberties with the designs. I want something a little more detailed and real.

Oh yeah, finally someone actually made the Resolute. I can't wait until you finished the entire Exo Fleet, they have good looking cruisers and drop ships. I'll be watching this thread closely like an eagle watching a prey.

    Keep up the good work.

My favorite the Exo Carrier Coronado, which was destroyed by a single Neo Y-wing detanating the nuclear missles in the launch tubes creating a chain reaction.

I don't know the show myself, but the designs look interesting enough that I might look it up.

Yeah the company that held the license to a lot of the robotech designs licensed them to the company that made exosquad so if you were old enough to have some money back then you would see some toys in the store that said exosquad on the box but looked like destroids and battleoids etc...

I was old enough to notice the difference in the animation quality of that show and I didn't like it one bit. Things like peoples heads would get smaller and bigger at random times and ships or fighters would grow longer wings at one point and shorter fuselage at another lol.

Funny thing I think the same company that produced the totally spies show also produced exosquad but can't remember for sure atm.

You want some gritty life and death stuff that was good at that time just find some old captain harlock episodes or robotech or starblazers or even tranzor Z. People fought and died all the time in those shows. While gi joe was trying to tell us all to get along these other shows were telling it like it was. Top that off with living under that house that reagan built and having your life threatened on an almost nightly basis by a burglar at 2 in the morning and you learn quickly what life was all about lol.

This was undoubtedly the greatest Science Fiction show no one ever heard of. Sure the animation was kind of crappy but it had something most live action shows don't have and that's called 'Heart.'

Where I lived Exosquad was on at 7 a.m. weekday mornings. I must have caught it accidentally while trying to wake up for work one day. I immediately dismissed it as yet another crappy cartoon that were in abundance during the AM hours. I'm not sure when I got hooked but after watching a few episodes I began to notice something; it had a story that was much more mature, multi-layered and complex than the average cartoon had. Intrigued I stayed with it and was shocked at just how complex and mature the plot was. All concepts and ideas behind the show were what great Science Fiction novels are made of. I saw a level of genius that was astonishing.

Whenever I told a friend about the show the immediate response was, "Wait, this is a cartoon?" Without joking I would say the plot for Exosquad is easily on par with the current TV hit 'Battlestar Galactica.' In fact you could take the original Exosquad show and redo it with live action actors and top notch CG effects without changing a single element and you would have what would amount to a milestone in Television history.

Networks and producers are always looking for 'the next big hit.' If someone was to seriously take on Exosquad and give it the treatment it deserves they would have a masterpiece on their hands.

I have a feeling the writers for Exosquad figured no one was paying any attention to them so they decided to slip a brilliant plot into what would otherwise be called a shlocky cartoon.

The first season is now on Hulu.com. Watch it if you get a chance.

    LOVE LIVE THE EXO FLEET!

Oh this is too true. The whole thing and its close relation to world war II have pritty wide spread apeal. There is a damn good story in there to be told, and the first person to figure that out and do something about it is going to be a very rich man.

I am amazed to this day how popular that show was and yet it was still cancelled, at least they resolved the Neosapian War before it was cancelled.

The secret is they all have the same secondary hull with different fronts.:D Except for Borealis, and Newton of course.

Edit: Still one of the coolest (and at the age of 8 more gut wrenching) moments in saturday morning cartoon history.

I actually have started rewatching the series, there is some dark stuff in there. When I was younger I dont think I completly apretiated or understood the whole "genocide" subplot. I must have been too buisy eyeing the cool mechs.

They both look very nice :thumb: I would just change the engines on the longer craft because the parts around the exhaust look like they could fly off every moment :D

where and when did they air the show?
looks like around 1990 but I never seen it back then, tho this would have blended perfectly with the other shows I was watching :-(
anyways, nice models. personally I don't like all the roundish shapes, but that's how the ships look.
for a comic-conversion very well done work
  • wow that is some excellent work, brings back memories!!!

Tv shows from the 80's and 90's were much better than the fluff we have today. Political correctness and helicopter parents run everything now so we don't even get ninja turtles kicking garbage cans anymore. I still remember when ninja turtles would actually fight enemies and chop them up etc. then some stupid kid tied a garbage can lid to his back and beat up his brother or something like that and the whole show changed to knocking over dumb ninjas with spare tires and garbage cans that were so conveniently available in every episode.

Old shows actually taught kids something like the difference between life and death, right and wrong, sharing, learning, working together well with others. All thats been replaced by the likes of sponge bob and some sexually suggestive mess that ends up being parodied on the internet in a pornographic way. I don't think people want their kids diving into the sea trying to go to the bottom of the ocean looking for sponge bob and gary lol.

Trying to get back on topic here lol but does anyone remember there was a show for mechwarrior? I think that came out not too long before exosquad. Also I think that exosquad went off and then wing commander animated series came on.

Nice, man... I loved Exo-Squad back in the day. My favorite bit was that first landing on Earth after the year away, bypassing the GRAF shield and all that... Show had some really crappy moments (like the season 2 upgrades, the various super-Neo-Sapiens, etc.) but some really great stuff as well. I like how the frames were portrayed at the very beginning of the series - the "jumping" on Mars as opposed to the flat-out "flying" later on, and the way they hinted at some deeper implications of those neural links...

Are you gonna do Resolute 2 as well?
