    UPDATE...
A few more things added to the saucer. I finally nailed down what I wanted to do for the reaction control thrusters. I also finally moved it over to mental ray.

I have always liked the K-7 design. Look forward to seeing your version develop.

    UPDATE...
Some detail added to the top of the center saucer.
    2343.jpg
And more stuff under the one smaller saucer.

One of the things I really liked about the original K-7 station was the stepped appearance of the saucers, as if they'd been shipped folded, then expanded out in place. Without that construction, what do you suppose the purpose of the off-center cylinder on the central saucer is?
  • XFozzbouteXFozzboute654 Posts: 1,627Member
I have no clue about the off center cylinder, I just like it.
    UPDATE...
A few more minor detail added to the top of the main saucer.
    2345.jpg
And a few more things added to the smaller saucer.

I like it. Will there be another bay on the opposite side as well?
  • XFozzbouteXFozzboute654 Posts: 1,627Member
I don't think so. All the pictures and models I've seen have only had one.
  • XFozzbouteXFozzboute654 Posts: 1,627Member
    UPDATE...
Not getting too much done but I did add some windows to the niply thing on the top.

I'd've said "thimbly thing," myself, but I can see where you're coming from.

Is the roundish jobbie on the outboard side going to be a docking port, or just an airlock?
  • XFozzbouteXFozzboute654 Posts: 1,627Member
It was just the first word that came to mind. :D
The roundish thing will be some kind of light. I saw it on a bunch of reference pics and decided I'd add it as well.

    UPDATE...
Windows and rooms have been added and I moved it over to mental ray.

I decided to work more on the Ptolimy so I added textures to the container connection.

    UPDATE...
I’m thinking of changing the nacelles and using these from my U.S.S. Sirius. Still not sure yet but I like them.
    2437.jpg
    These are the old ones

That looks hella nice. I love the look of the TMP-style impulse engines on the TOS-era saucer.
  • XFozzbouteXFozzboute654 Posts: 1,627Member
    Yeah. So do I.
  • JennyJenny2 Posts: 0Member
I'll third that. It's a nice blend of the generations of Starfleet design.
  • XFozzbouteXFozzboute654 Posts: 1,627Member
    UPDATE...
I’ve started work on the engine pylons.
    2439.jpg
  • JennyJenny2 Posts: 0Member
Hmm. Kind of featureless. I know you said you were just starting to work on it, but I wonder... one of those blow-out vent panels like on the inboard side of Enterprise's nacelles?
  • XFozzbouteXFozzboute654 Posts: 1,627Member
I intended them to be featureless, I'm ok with that.

    UPDATE...
Finished up the warp pylon. I added the bump map to make the green stripe pop out a little more and added more grime.
    2440.jpg
Getting bit of work done in the container. Not much more to do other than adding textures.
    2441.jpg

Very nice. I don't think I've ever seen anyone model the interior of one of those containers. I like your approach. Also glad to see the unique nacelle back. ;)
  • XFozzbouteXFozzboute654 Posts: 1,627Member
I don't even know why I did it.

    UPDATE...
Getting some textures done on the container doors.
    2442.jpg
A bit more done and a little more to go. I might tone down that yellow a little bit.
    2443.jpg
And what the inside of the doors look like.
