hi people.

how about a gunstar ?
a real piece of space artillery.
a real space gun that fires bullets larger than a viper.
a real sniper long range gun mounted on a spaceship.
a gun that could blow a basestar in a few shots.

just a gun alone on a spaceship (its no battlestar. its not made for closeup combat and wouldnt have AA or nukes or turrets).

I buy it.

what do you think?

Was the gun shown fireing on the Base star when the Pegasus sacraficed herself to save the Galactica?
  • L2KL2K0 Posts: 0Member
that is just the end of the gun, kids.
its meant to be larger than the statics front canons of the pegasus.
its space artillery. it shouldnt be on a battlestar.
the magazine will be on the side.

the barrel should be a bit larger than a galactica flight pod. (in large, not length)

the ship itself should be a little bigger than my blinkspark paralax if you remember that one.
    i like small specific ships.
one day, to help this one, i'll do a shieldstar.

    rear of the gun.
this thing is the guide that ejects empty rounds into space.

Sort of Big Berta in space? The recoil on that thing will knock the teeth our of the crew:)
    Lets see it finished :)

so basically you're making a BSG version of the MAC stations from Halo.
  • L2KL2K0 Posts: 0Member
    never played halo :$

that how i would make space artillery.
5 of these far from a battlefield, shooting at cylon basestars while battlestars detachements are on the flight deck, waiting to be at fire range.

or, coupling it with a space awacs and make a real space sniper.

Up the contrast a bit on your renders. We'll be able to see the details better.

bits, pipes and a little of armoring.

and a real light. it was only the GI.

it still doesnt have so much details. but they will come.

    edit : a full shot

    well, now i need feedback

im kinda stucked with the configuration :s
i roughed 3, but im open to suggestions.

i dont want it to be symetrical. the other side will be a small landing/cargo bay
(just enough room for 4-5 raptors to fit in.)

How about a belly mount, with traditional Battle star engine set up.
  • L2KL2K0 Posts: 0Member
    mmh, nice idea.
    something like this?
  • kborakkborak1 Posts: 0Member
hey I like that one alot.

hmm. I kinda thought the gun would be like..... bigger? :D I mean like most of the ship would be gun. I see that it's actually huge, but come'on! the torso is still bigger then the gun...:runs:

    yes :)
the tube is not all of the gun. its just a visual mark. but i'll boost the guns proportions anyway.
cause like this, with the fuel, ammunitions and cargobay, i dont know where the crew will operate and sleep.
so everything a little bigger and the gun a little longer.

    belly mounted.

red thing is a viper for scale comparaison

MAybe a bigger houseing area for the gun. maybe a upside down trapezoid semi flush with the sides of the hull?
  • L2KL2K0 Posts: 0Member

ribbing the beast, and tweeking the belly
i offset the gun slightly on one side, in order to stick a huge hubble type sniperscope.

    the vipers give the seize.
the ship is 6 vipers height and the gun 4

I wasn't really sure where you were going with this but seeing it with the vipers along side really let me know :thumb: Now that is one big gun:) I think there have been only a few scifi books I've read back in the days of 70's pulp that had anything quite like this. Really cool project:cool:

    the sniperscope.
a kind of huge hubble telescope belly mounted.

what do you think? too big? too small?
  • kborakkborak1 Posts: 0Member
Its perfect....for hitting the Andromeda galaxy but, I was thinking something a little farther out!
  • L2KL2K0 Posts: 0Member
tweeking the main scope seize and adding secondary telescopes.

    next : the RCT.
i need 3 kind or rotation trusters.
    macro, micro and nano.
    macro for general navigation/manoeuvres
micro for aiming at "close" range
and nano or the long range tweeking

working on the belly a littlebit before starting the rct

    slowly detailling

Very nice work, mate -- I'm loving the concept. However, even a vessel designed for long range "sniping" missions would have flak cannons and a few AA guns (with military ideology, you'd NEVER build a ship that couldn't defend itself from close combat.) Just my thoughts.

detailing here and there, thinking about my RCT family and trying a bullet...
i'll do other types, but this is the seize. :D

a few AA guns... i supose i could add some here and there, but if a squad of raiders aproch it, i dont think it will live long... specially with nukes...

but it may make the crew feel safer

    bullet family and landing bay

huge bullets like this are far cheaper to build than a viper
and a lot more destructive than a viper could ever be :D
