The Star Wars laser tutorial request thread (yes i searched :)

Hi all, I am new round these parts. I see lots of great images and animations with some pretty awesome looking effects in them. I have searched these boards and around the net and came across a few threads that deal specifically with the creation of lasers/blaster bolts icreation for animation.

My question is, how do most people here achieve most of these effects? Meaning do you use AE or do most of the effects in your 3d package? I know how to do this in both Max and after effects.......well sort of :P but it never comes out quite to my liking. I have done a lot of searching here and the rest of the net and have yet to find a ton of specific information on this. Any help/tutorials would be greatly appreciated

Right now I use 3ds Max 9 and After Effects if that helps at all.

Yeah I have seen that tut thanks. Guess I was just wondering what is the most used/easiest method used around here for creating the effect.

Renderable spline + material with the ID set to one!

under rendering/effects choose glow... set the mat ID to 1 and fiddle with the effect by changing the values in the effects panel!
