Vessel Energy Shielding

I don't want to sound crazy but is it possible to create the effect of deflector shielding around vessels using Cinema 4D, preferably in Stargate style. I'd have no idea how to do it, I was wondering whether you would...

    Just use a smoke texture.

Yes, you can. I saw a tutorial once, that used proxima for it, though it was in german, so I don't know, if you would understand it.

So use a coloured smoke pyrocluster?

I usually use a squashed sphere, with most of the texture transparent appart from where you want the weapons strike to be.

You can always use a gradient at the weapons point, to make it fade off nicely.

    Hmm, sounds good.

I'll try and see how it turns out.
