Max movement rotation etc axis help

Ok, i opened up a model that i had downloaded and found that when i went to move it, where the green red and blue arrows were, there was none and all i could do was move it freehand. how can i change it back? Also when i click my middle mouse button to move around the scene, it comes up with boxes around the model instead of the actual model, please help if possible.

press 'x' then press 'o' which should fix both problems respectively.

lol. yeah tell me about it, went insane one night when I lost my crosshairs...

I shut down and swore never to switch my computer on ever again... a proper hissy fit

There are times when you can lose the crosshair and hitting "x" won't restore it. In those instances, right click on the title of the active viewing pane, and make sure it's set to display gizmos.
