I can't figure out how to add a starship mesh to the interior of my spacedock mesh. Can someone help?

You should be able to import by going to file/import.
What exactly is happening? And how different is the scale of the two models?

Depends if its a .3ds/.obj or is it a .max file.
If it's a .3ds or .obj you use the import function. File --> Import
If you're trying to add a .max file, you use the merge or merge animation. Again, under the file menu.
