3ds lightning..

Is it possible to make a good looking lightning on 3dsmax without the bloody $100 plugin that i see repeated every time i search for some kind of tutorial?

If someone could give me and example of what is possible or not, or any kind of tutorial, I would be most appreciative.

(i meant for 3d objects or perhaps particles, not some post production)

A plugin? you don't need any plugin, but which version of 3ds max are you using?

Lightning man, As in bright flash followed by thunder. Thunderstorms, lightning strikes, etc..

Although i will use that lightning tutorial, as i was looking into that next >_>

Lightning...I imagine the easiest way to do it would be renderable splines...Draw out the spines how you want to and make them renderable...Adjust the width to suit, create a self-illuminating white material, assign it an effects channel and add glow to it...That's if you're after the fork lightning effects...

Sorry, I am unfamiliar with any lightning tutorials out there...

Ok, I've misread one word... (also it could have been a typo).
BTW...
What kind of tut are you searching for? The visible image of a lightning (the bolt)? Something to simulate the flash of light in your environment? As it is, it's impossible to help you...
You can do whatever you want without a plugin in MAX...
Try to be more specific.
(Oh, before I forgot, I don't think such a tutorial exist at the moment...)

if you have 3ds 7+, there's ways you can do it with PFlow...I'd have to do some research, but 'tis possible....I'll get back to you
