So, what's everyone's favorite software behemoth been up to? Post useful plugins and resources for Autodesk software, or just let us know how you feel about their latest shenanigans. :p

Not anything directly autodesk related but a add on to max. As I refuse to use add ons or plug ins that affect my files so if I open a file elsewhere or share a file it is a wall of errors or missing dlls etc. This software addon or script is pretty much stand alone, and only affects software settings and extras often hidden and needing "unlocking". It also makes for a quick way to set up profiles or settings without editing things or going through multiple menus. It wont add anything to the mesh files.

    Thorsten Hartmann's
    Render Optimizer for Mental Ray

His, I think root website. Looks different to what I found originally as it was a blog but that was a while back.

As of last time I downloaded and set it up it was version specific. This is for those who use mental ray primarily. I dunno if there is something similar for vray or whatever max has now. Not interested in paying them 4k a yr to rent max.

I use mostly irradiance and importation the most, as I have most of my FG and the like already set up.

So, 3ds Max Indie and Maya Indie are now a thing. $250 a year for a fully featured program for people with less than 100k revenue/year.

    https://area.autodesk.com/3ds-max-indie/
    https://area.autodesk.com/maya-indie/

Or, so I've heard. :eyeroll: It's only available in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the UK and US.

It looks like Autodesk is putting an end to Perpetual Licenses at the end of the month. Meaning if you have to reinstall like I do you will not be able to get an activation code. I found this out over here. https://forums.cgsociety.org/t/autodesk-perpetual-licenses-suddenly-not-perpetual-anymore/2052430

That's really bad news for individuals like you, bro. Unfortunately, Autodesk doesn't give a crap about you. They expect professionals and effects houses to keep paying for those rentalware licenses. All of those companies are that way, even the ones that still do perpetual licenses. They're priced for professionals, not hobbyists like us.

yup just gonna push people to Blender. I know more people using it professionally over other licences as contractors cannot afford this rentalware bullshit. Know a few who are outraged at how some of these companies are treating things as it means a livelyhood being held for ransom as old software they thought they owned is killed. Reason the whole activation thing is a trap.

most just go the route of well AHEMING stuff because they are driven to it, which in a way is very sad as these are or WERE paying customers.

I will never rent software. EXP in a climate where programmers and all the other people who work to put these things together are treated like contractors and it is ceos just milking the cow.

Max indie sounds like a rip, sub 100k they want 3grand a year. . . . max used to sell as a onetime fee of 3500 often marked down to 2500, yeah NOT.
