A non Trek or Wars or anything else project, just something from my own imagination - a future cargo ship. Current mesh is a study model as I've been playing around with concepts for a time, but I've settled on this, and will be developing it going forward:








This is an original idea, and not from any show/film/book. Something of mine I am choosing to share :-)

Morning all!

Time for a scale render to show how small/big this 'lil ship is;



Both ships are rendered to scale with each other - so the cat is out of the bag as to the scale of this baby. I kinda wish I had done this at the start, so I could have recaptured the small ship I crafted before, but... Here we are, and I think the size works.



Deck layout is holding - although I have noticed something that is off. A row of windows on the saucer is off. Not sure why at this stage, so I'll be looking into that.



Should give an idea of the layout - and yes, the trop docking rings are back, and have been moved forward :-) Giving this ship the seven ports I originally had on her;

To scale with the Class J shuttle I built a while back;





Would Star Fleet have more than one class/type of shuttle in service? Of course they would. Both shuttles fill different roles.

And now that is done, back to the main lady;

There was one cover where the Refit version of the Mirror Enterprise fired on the Excelsior. It seemed to have a wider saucer. Done by mistake, but an interesting look all the same. I hope you do that and some other refit era craft.

The movie era is a fav of mine. I love the almost uniform look of the ships - something that has been lost in later iterations of Trek (IMOO). Back in the days of old, it was important for Starfleet ships to look like they belonged to the same fleet and had come out of the same yards.

Looking back over the old WIP thread on Treknographics, my original inspiration was to build a rationalised Oberth Class - I stumbled across the image of the Clarke Class USS Surak and used it as a jumping off point. It's not biggie that the artists working on the comics at the time hadn't seen what an Oberth Class ship looked like, and were given a written description. Later issues corrected and showed the Surak as Oberth Class...

Since I started the original a few things have happened in Trek - an on screen USS Clarke NCC-1661 - a Clarke Class in STO... So being mindful of all that, I'm calling this one the McCaffrey Class (still a sci-fi writer). But yes, I haven't built the "class" ship, but rather another USS Clarke. She's bigger than the original one I built last time, but I am going with that increase in size and making it work for her.

Yes, I have "updated" the TMP era shuttle... Do I need to duck yet?

Their will be two shuttles - I haven't got names for them yet. I am either going to use "Arthur" and "Charles" or "Lys" and "Diaspar" - comments and thoughts are welcome, just keep name ideas connected to Arthur C Clarke.

What seems a billion years ago, I was inspired to build a ship from the old DC comics;



I called her the USS Clarke NCC-901. I had a lot of plans for the class, but life got in the way, and then disaster struck, and I lost all of my 3D work. Aside from a few images I had nothing left of decades worth of work. (Yes, I used to keep backups – they were destroyed as well. But you don’t need the sordid details. Things are far more secure now).

The Ingram Class has been saved due to the fact I shared that mesh with a fan-film group. But the Clarke and everything else was lost.

Well, I have been reclaiming some of what was lost. I built an Excelsior Class variant a while back. Although the thread got highjacked by the need to fit in a with a fan list… Which yes, soured me on building Trek again – hence the Blake’s 7 project. But… well, here we are. I have started rebuilding the Clarke. Obviously, I am mindful of the fact that since I built the original some things have happened on screen in Trek (like the USS Clarke NCC-1661, and the fact there is a Clarke Class now).

So, I’m building a ship inspired by what I had, a new USS Clarke NCC-2661. If pushed for a class name, I’d go with McCaffrey. She was the first female writer to win the big awards for science fiction books. The Clarke is going to be a TMP era style ship, and… I guess I’ll see how we go;
