Thanks. Yeah, I really didn’t want to brush paint, but at the time, the prospect of masking off all the details on the Maquis hull was pretty daunting. But I think now I figured out how to do it. Besides, I did improve my brush skills a bit with this. I’m calling this first one done. Gonna hang her up from my ceiling now, and enjoy looking at her. This is the first thing I’ve ever kitbashed, and honestly, I’m amazed no major issues came up during the build. She’s not perfect, but I did learn a lot during the process, which will be applied to the next Yeager I build, as well as the Elkins.

Cleaned up the phasers on the top saucer, and did a bit more brown painting on the lower secondary hull.

I like the blue on that shuttle thing we never got to see on the show. It makes it pop.

Thanks. That’s actually how it is on the original.

MKF, I don’t know if these will be of any use to you, but here you go:

Well, I decided to go all brush with the Maquis hull. I don’t like brush painting, but that was kind of my reason for going all brush - I want to develop my skills more, so that I can get better at it. As I said before, any unevenness or overflow of paint will be cleaned up later with a toothpick, to even everything out, and make the lines clean.

Hey, all. I’ve started work on my own kitbash of the USS Yeager, from DS9. I’m going to be following the paint scheme of the filming model, using the colors that fellow modeler Stephen Loftus used on his own kitbash.

For my bash, I’m using an old Voyager saucer from a previous kit. I’ve stripped the original paint down to the bare plastic (using oven cleaner - spray it on, and let soak for about 10 minutes, then brush off with a toothbrush), then applied some Tamiya Fine Surface Primer, then shot the base coat of Testors Flat Gull Gray. I’ve now masked off the parts of the saucer to be painted light blue, in this case, Testors Russian Underside Blue.

I realize most of the saucer windows have been previously installed. I have black and white ultra-fine-tip Sharpie paint pens for the windows, and I am confident I can redo them cleanly, once all the painting is done. This will be a LONG-term project, as I am absolutely determined to do this right, so don’t expect daily or sometimes even weekly updates. But they will come.
