  • My Star Trek Thread

Came back, and spotted your 'looks like a crocodile head', and my very first thought was: USS Steve Irwin
And couldn't stop grinning, because just imagine what fun he'd have with the rubber latex forehead people.

    A few things.
    1. Sorry about the side image having in-game stuff. I simply couldn't manipulate it in a way that didn't have the HUD graphics in the way.
    2. Forgot I had my graphics turned down, whoops.
    3. I can't do much about the darkness, as once in deep space the lighting is dependent on if you're near a star and what color the star is. In this images case, its right near the Bajor system.
    4. I put the images in a spoiler, simply so anyone wanting to only see your work, can skip right past this.
Its a 'through-deck' carrier, where the front shuttlebay connects directly to the back shuttle bay, if however the aft one is one deck above.
All my ships use an Egyptian theme (Anubis, Hathor, Sekhmet, etc), hence the rather unique name. Only downside is the small hull, heh, can't display all the letters/numbers properly on the saucer. There's supposed to be two phaser strips on the underside, one on either side of the lower escape pod hatches, but it never renders.

That long 'neck' like section, ending in the photon torp launchers, you might want to keep a copy of, as is, in a separate file entirely. Because I'm almost positive you could make one awesome looking Klingon ship from it, with only minor mods, once you're done with this hull.

NOTE: keep using it for this hull, I wasn't suggesting you don't. Please keep doing so.

  • Some Trek ship imaginings

BTW, might I suggest as one of the secondary names, USS Wheeler? After the John A. Wheeler, the scientist that coined the term 'wormhole'?
Although keep Arges, I *really like* that one.

  • Many, many ships (Jayru WIP Thread)

That is so anime looking it hurts.

That is a compliment. It hurts because its not (yet) IN an anime to watch.

    Love it.

    Schematics - :-1:
    Pictures - :+1:
All the organic shapes - :-1:
All the greebles and greebles and greebles - fun but :-1:
    Plating on organic shapes - :-1: :-1:
Worth doing? :+1: :+1: (If you enjoy swearing)

A good rule of thumb is, If you're swearing over it, and yet you still want to do it, it's worth doing. (Except Dark Souls, that's just an ulcer maker)

BTW, which version of the BoP are you using?
If it's the ST:III & IV version, which is the one most of us probably think of, those wingtip disruptors you currently have are 100% fine.
But if you're using the one from ST:V, it's wingtip cannons have a much more detailed configuration with more components. There is a scene where when they fire, it has a close-up of the cannons and they're completely different.

In case it finally does drive you nuts, as I previously mentioned, you did say this was a 1.1 Prometheus, and not a 1.0 Prometheus. I mean, if you want to think of it one way, go the STO route, where the triple-hull thing was flat out removed on many in the class (resulting in a 'solid hull' sub-class).

  • My Star Trek Thread

Brandenberg, I take it you play STO? Possibly getting ideas from the mix'n'match customization options for hulls?

  • My Star Trek Thread

    Yup, that's the one.
The outer piece, what looks like a dual barreled turret, is exactly the same, but the main disruptor has a lot more piping on it in the ST:V version (the image above). The original BoP, which I believe is what you're working on, has only a single pipe 'droop' under the main barrel, paralleling it, until you get to the rectangular 'muzzle' bit.

That's actually an interesting design. Did you make your own mesh of it or is it only on STO?

Its all STO's meshes. Its just that the way STO works is that they give you between 2-5 different 'sibling' meshes for related classes - read: all work identically, its just different cosmetic skins - and then breaks it down into saucer, main hull, pylons, nacelles, and misc (for anything with quad-nacelles so you can mix'n'match even more, or something like mission pods as like the Nebula class' one), and then you can splice them together however you like. IIRC my combo was:
    Saucer: Armitage class
    Engineering/Main Hull: Zephyr class
Pylons (and in this case, the phaser/torpedo pod as well): Armitage class
    Nacelles: Oslo class

Yet it all works as it if was an upgraded Akira class.

And if I had any skill beyond 'set the PC with Maya installed on fire' (don't ask) with 3D graphics, I'd have made it and fixed a few nearly hidden spots where the individual pieces don't line up really well. My skill lies more with 2D.

I just figured you might want something to mess with if you wanted.
