Calibrated all of the Enterprise's lighting and added the "morning dish".

    A very beautiful model!
Thank you! I never completed the textures for the exterior, but it was sure fun to fly around the interior in-game.

Imagine Kirk finding this waiting for him in dry dock...

This will be my next main ship build after I have done the Oberth Class.

Thanks! I'm looking forward to seeing it. :)

I'm done modeling the top of the secondary hull, the pylons, and the nacelles, so the entire ship model is finished. Now for texturing fun...

The prototype Excelsior has an odd structure in front of the shuttlebay whose purpose I can't figure out. It looks like a large room with huge windows. This would make a great arboretum, but it's oddly close to the shuttlebay and the space would be better suited for auxiliary craft maintenance and storage (maybe that's why they changed it on the NCC version). Then again it would make an awesome reception area for dignitaries arriving by shuttlecraft. It would be cool if someone fleshed out its interior (@Rekkert I'm looking in your direction ;) ) I may do it in the future, but for now I'm just interested in recreating the movie miniature.

    Indeed:

For this image I used the model of the space dock I built for Bridge Commander and converted the materials to work with Corona. I also added new lighting that played nicely with the render engine. A studio quality model of the space dock is definitely in the works, but I need a new computer to handle what is sure to be a beast of a model.

Very nice work. What software are you using for modeling and rendering?

Thanks! I use 3ds Max and Corona Renderer. :)
    That looks outstanding.

    Thanks @evil_genius_180 :)

    Work Bee Cargo Carrier

This one turned out to be more fun than I thought it would be.

Thank you all for your kind words. Your encouragement keeps me going.

@P5ych0p4th TMP may not have had the most action or the fastest pace, but it's that sense of wonder and adventure that makes it my favorite Star Trek movie.

    Work Bee

I've started modeling the work bee. This is a pretty low-poly model as the scene is already quite heavy and I'm not planning any extreme closeups for this craft; I plan to have more than a few buzzing around.

It's funny that you should say this, as that was exactly what happened in DC's Star Trek Volume 1 series following the destruction of the Enterprise in The Search for Spock. From #9, through to when they aligned to The Voyage Home, the Enterprise crew had transferred to the USS Excelsior.
And don't forget that dialog about Sulu taking command of the Excelsior that they cut out of TWoK. It's during the travel pod ride to the Enterprise.

It's very weird (but cool) to see the Excelsior on the unmodified TMP dock. Did you have to scale the dock up, or did it fit with the same size as the Enterprise?
Believe it or not that's to scale. The Excelsior is too big for the dry dock, but only just, so it doesn't look totally ridiculous in there.

    Here are the requested orthos:

Please note that these plans are not 100% accurate, so if you're going to use them to build a model please supplement your research with reference photos. Enjoy! :)

So I'm pretty much done with the modeling on this (as if one could ever be "done" modeling this thing; it seems there's always something new to discover). I also cleaned up the lighting by using the KISS method. Now it's just one key light and one fill light. The HDRI I was using was causing weird artifacts. I still need to add the spotlights for the Enterprise. Here is a draft render with the studio Enterprise. I only had time to do one this morning. More to come...

    Thank you!

I've textured the bee. Now it's time to make the mechanical arm sled and the cargo carrier.
