Precise? lol I mostly fudge everything as I go. Rest is just eyeballing it.
Update on bits and bobs, and a rounded main hull for the nacelles. Very subtle exp with the renderer that seems to kick corners on it's own but old habit to round all sharp edges so I still do it. This part might sit as subdiv while I mull out the end point of the warp grill. Cannot decide to have it round or square it out (like it is now)
and oooof these render times full ship image I left overnight 3.1 hrs.
More panels done uvws on some are temp while I decide how I want them to work. IE I might replace the textures as max always turns them 90deg the wrong way. Sadly it will mean having 2 maps for saucer vs planar or other styles as it works for one but not the other -_-. . . .
anyhow testing how linking discord images work. Let me know if anyone cannot see them if I keep them linked. Thinking they might not scale right vs the php based crap from wordpress. 4k is just too large vs 1440p in file size to justify on the wordpress storage. Already going to have to shift to a new "blog" in a few months.
they seem to auto scale well and display but I'm on discord too. . . . one drawback I see clicking wants to save vs open in new tab so maybe it is not a solution.
Walled in and my cheapo park trees added to some cyl inside. Not what I plan to put in there in the future but for what I need it should do.
And here is the reason I am not so concerned about it. It is just blue bits of light and crap in the end. Final size might be 50% larger than this render.
EDIT (just adding to this post vs post flooding)
Some spun nipples. Dunno how much of this sort of crap it should have on it. . . .
46 emplacements in total. 10 per disc, 16 on the central core. X2 as each is a pair. I think well enough of them lol. Torps I think I will keep only on the core in 2 rings of 3, total of 6 pairs.
They were meant to not look like rounded off blisters but more of a cap with the angle and hard chamfer on the ends. I might have to change them, it also fit what was int he images as they had squared off corners.
More holes and rooms. doing them as I go vs the side hull where I did all the steps at once. Seems less tortuous.
Thanks everyone keeps me going with this as lately I fight the software more than I do work in it :O
Small spine details and stuff all across the top.
rounded the lip after arguing with the plain chamfer looking to sharp. Might still flatten it and deepen the rounding and bodge the sharp edge convergence on the saucer rim.
Slog, converting to vray. Really drives me mad as one file will behave one way another in a very different way. Here as I replace the mental ray stuff it is just adding to the multi mat vs replacing them. Other files would replace the material and ID. I am sure there is some faster way to do this that isnt obvious.
Anyhow loads of fine tuning to do and clearly there will be differences vs the original mental ray version. Fighting urges to redo parts as I go. Also been tempted to just select everything and apply one material to it and go through and redo it manually vs by ID. Also think I need to do some re uvwing. Such as detaching some of these panels and make unique UVWs per panel so the progressive mats do not span panels.
I will likely be swapping between projects as time goes. So you'll see this another ship and the commission ship off and on.
