Small updates and a curiosity question...

Finished some windows and small details. Changed the configuration of the engines... they looked too trekky to me. Still trying to figure out how I want to finish them.

Playing around with the textures too. Hoping I can get advice on which one looks more realistic...

    Thanks for looking...

    Hello,

I meant to post these updates sooner, but got o it today. Still promising to complete this one... Satisfactorily...

I know it looks very trek-ish, but this is what I have so far for the engines. I've taken ideas from plasma thrusters and ion engines currently in use to create these engines. They are capped with the Bussard collectors, since they are scientifically/theoretically feasible.

The ship will not have an artificial gravity, unless it is an induced gravitational field due to thrust. The decks are laid out so that they run perpendicular to the axis of the ship. The shuttle is docked on Deck 0 and it increases upward to deck ten. The "bridge" or command area will be on deck eight or nine (haven't made up my mind yet). The interiors will all be done as well. At least that's my goal. I suck so bad at doing all the little details that so many of you do so well, that it may not tun out like I want it, but hey... it's fun anyway. I'm planning on a medical section, and a botanical section, as well as places for storage for O2, H2O, food, and sleeping quarters. They won't be as private as they are on a trek ship. I'm trying to stay more practical with this concept... even though it hails from a sci-fi design.

Thoughts are that a lander of some sort can be docked to the rear of the ship, where the Shuttle is now. It would be similar in size to the Eagle lander that went to the moon, only more advanced, capable, and it's design will fit more to the style of the ship.

I've started adding details, though, my renders are not close enough to see them yet. Next step is to add windows to spots around the secondary section and start detailing it's interior. I suck at lighting and texturing, so any advice is welcome.

As usual, comments, crits, or suggestions are welcome...

There's another member here who uses the phrase "thread starter" in their sig line. Honestly, I've been around at the Sci-Fi Meshes site forever, but have never felt confident posting very much, mostly 'cause you guys rock and roll with your meshes and 3D designs, and I feel so inferior. So, I've started several meshes, but never finished one. This will be my first shot at trying to finish what I've started. One of these days I'll pull out some of the old meshes and finish a few... lol

I've previously been working on the ships from the ST:09 movies, and before that, I worked on a Federation/Vulcan hybrid.

In the mean time, school is about over, and I've had a wild hair to create something a little bit realistic. I thought, "lets explore the solar system around us rather than explore the distant stars that 'Stein says we'll never make it to in our lifetime..."

This mesh here is inspired by Masao's Pre-TOS ships, but is NOT meant to be part of the trek universe. It'll include an ion drive with a reactor chamber, no artificial gravity, but can conceivably tour the solar system for science and research purposes in months, rather than years. It would make regular stops back at earth, dock with the ISS or the Shuttle (I know, they're gonna stop using it, yeah, yeah...) to refuel and re-stock. The parts would be brought to earth orbit in sections using a Titan-type rocket. It would house a crew of about 16, including science personnel and command crew. The main hull would be composed of Titanium (unless someone can inform me of something stronger, lol... "Dangit Jim, I'm a physicist, not a chemist!"), with a ceramic foam layer, and a layer of aluminum.

I'll add updates pretty regularly, I hope... Comments and crits are welcome as usual... Thanks for looking!!

(p.s. I noticed after I'd posted this that none of the images have credits... I will update these images with credits at my next possible opportunity... My apologies!)
