The conversion process from Maya to 3dsmax begun in 2011: https://forums.scifi-meshes.com/discussion/77527/converting-from-maya-to-max#latest
Yeah.... It´s dammed slow, I know. It´s cause I don´t play with 3dsmax often. RL and family takes precedence, and the lack of inspiration and lazyness keep pushing me to do other things.
But know I think it´s close to an end. Finally, all the geometry is corrected and alligned. Fake windows interiors and arboretum are now in place, as almost all the insignias are in place too. I still need to figure better settings for the materials and put the light rig in place. After that, release it.
(the original was built by Kenneth Leishman in Maya).
Many Star Trek fans know the non-canon Akula Class starship. From old games, drawings, renderings... there are many incarnations of her floatting in several sites and blogs. Sitting in the TMP movie era, the Akula got my attemption sicnce a long time.
After I watched "Star Trek - Picard" series, in which you can see the new Stargazer and the Enterprise-G, I had an ideia... Why not an Akula Class in that timeframe? With that ideia in mind, I took Marc Bell´s Enterprise mesh (with his permission) and begun to build a kitbash, adding my own objects to give her the configuration I imagined. So, here it goes my MK-III version.
Modelling is done. Now it´s time for me to try what I don´t have the greater skills: textures...
Since the old days of the Wolfpack group (1998), I always admired the Apollo Class buit by Eric Peterson in the old 3ds Max 2. Along the years I tryed to built her several times. In all of them until now, I got frustated.
After many years of abscence and, after to see the brilliant work of Marc Bell, Chris Kuhn, Alexander Klemm, Gidian Plebuch, Gerard Duffy and others, I tought it was the time to try again, and for the first time I believe that I can do some justice to Eric Peterson. Of course that I can compare my wip with the masters pointed above, but it isn´t that bad this time, right?
So, here it goes the pics. Naceles, sensor pod, weapons, impulse engines and bridge are just placeholders for now, but I´m confident that I can build them with no problems. 🙂
Everytime I load the file, I find something that can be improved...
I need to stop this and let her go. So I´ll just add some lights and release it in the next days.
Update...
A lot of non-noticiable small tweaks here and there. I did small geometry corrections, welded vertices and solved to change a bit the nacele caps and deflector shape and colors.
After some help and guindance from Viper and Count23, I improved the geometry of the secondary hull.
It´s time to focus in other parts of the Apollo class.
Never mind...
I found a copy of the old book and CD, and the Klingon ship was there... It renders pretty well for an object built in 1996!!! Thank you John!!!
