It's been a while since I graced this site, so I thought I would reveal my current project, which I've been pretty upbeat about. Interiors seem to be my forte, and I find it difficult treading outside my comfort zone, so the following renders are a decent sampling of my latest endeavor.
The Asclepius falls within the era of Voyager, hence much of the design styling, but I've made some improvements and/or design evolution to common elements. The vessel class is a medical ship, not too dissimilar to the likes of the Olympic Class, and it's primary purpose is to render aid on a large scale, or supplement combat groups in battle.
Making a bit more progress, changed the area around the conduits to allow for a walkway, which ultimately will be open to the upper deck, added some more detail too...
Greetings, I am a new member here and by recommendation of a friend who pointed this site out to me, I was encouraged to share my work so far on this project. As the title shows, I am in the process of creating the most accurate representation of the Enterprise D's Engineering roomspace. I realize this can get rather large, so I'm taking my time, using as many resources I can to build it up right. For now, this is what I have so far. I should also add that this is all being done in Sketchup and Vray, so go easy on me as far as accurate lighting and such. Everything seen here is modeled (including the labels and the door control panels). For the displays (when the time comes), I'll place textures, but for now, those are just blank screens.
Here's an updated render, just completed. I still have a bit more to revise in the rear section, as well as for the conduit access, then it's back onto more specific details.
It's been a while, a long while actually. A lot has happened in my private life, and being caught up in it as such, I'd been lax in my hobby. A recent conversation with another member got me thinking and what I'd been kicking around of late, so I'll leave you with these couple of renders. I've been slimming down the scope of my work to smaller things...works out better that way.
I spent the better part of this evening, trying to find an acceptable palette of textures for this model. I guess it works. More subtle details added, shut down the warp core for this shot. It'll be interesting how everything will look when the "blue glow" comes into play. lol
Wow, two months have passed, sorry for disappearing. A lot's been going on , on my end, haven't had a lot of time for "fun". I did however, take some time to go back to basics, so to speak. I realized that complex scenes get incredibly difficult to produce, not to mention the heavy load on the old rig. I'm putting that pipe dream aside to focus more on smaller projects, like the following, which yes I know, this has been seen before, but with my concentration on rendering, lighting, camera setups and such, I thought it fitting to re-publish this as a starting point. Going forward, I'll be producing more equipment, furniture and things related to not only my ship but the Trek world as a whole, at least anything I know I can put out that is relatively satisfactory. If there is interest, I'd be happy to distribute my works to anyone who can use what I create, after all, this is a community, and I'm more than willing to share, as long as proper credit is given.
I've been dabbling a bit with Autodesk Fusion 360 a lot more now, realizing that it is better suited for the work side of my 3D modelling, as well as finding out that my wings will get clipped soon enough with Sketchup, forcing all perpetual license owners to pony up more cash for a subscription, which bites the big one, in my opinion.
Anyways, enjoy and if anyone has requests, feel free to reach out.
I have to admit, that over the past month, it hasn't been a walk in the park for me. Aside from the disappointing "lockdown" in my home state, my medical issues took the forefront of my life, which hasn't been easy to get through. I got low, lost my creative edge and didn't feel much for doing anything but concentrate on my health, what work I had to do for my job and mindless gaming to pass the time. I'm not sure what sparked the creativity again, but I'm feeling a bit better now, maybe a more positive outlook on things now.
Anywho, here is a render I did this morning to show off just a part of a greater plan to revamp things for the Patton engineering room. There were a lot of elements I wasn't satisfied with, coupled with the fact that my model was getting bloated with geometry that was taxing my rig a little much. With that said, I started over from the beginning, re-introducing components that have been checked and re-checked to make sure the model stays stable. While doing that, I gave more thought into the detailing of components (for example the monitoring stations), so I took my time in fixing them, as well as putting some thought into their build quality.
I;m not guaranteeing anything at this point, as far as completion and the only promise I can stick by is that this will get done, just not sure when. As I said, my health and employment come first, so whatever time I have free, i will try to stay the course.
I believe I "toned" down my issue, and it was a rather easy fix (despite my overhauling components that didn't really need it). There are a couple of settings within SU that handles performance, and by disabling a couple of features, SU runs a little smoother. So far, the model is hovering around 70mb, which isn't that bad, mostly due to textures believe it or not.
Anyways, enough tech talk, here's a few more renders.
