I've never designed my own Starfleet vessel before,...i started this as a just for fun side project, The USS Robert Lee Scott, NCC-81500. And it's turned in to a huge undertaking for sure, but a lot of fun. I wanted to go for a Kelvin-ish old-school ship and a very large one at that. I had this funny idea about exposed surface gear and technology to have some cool imagery to look at. And the secondary hull - or as i call it, the Tactical and Flight Decks - can be detachable and changed to the specific missions it's needed to do. IE, combat, science, humanitarian, supply and so on. Currently I'm designing the Tactical/Flight deck for this go-round. Still quite a ways to go for it's done. Maybe by Christmas? Maybe,. . .

There's kind of a backstory I thought of about the large dish on top. During a crisis when comms were down, the engineers said they could take parts and create a working subspace transceiver. the Captain approved and was so happy with the dish, he made the executive decision to keep the dish operational.
The Backbone portion was literally done for the fun have having a bunch of Kitbash parts to show a slightly older-school tech. I'm glad how it came out too.
I like all this little details.
