Sweet baby Jesus that's a good looking ship. I'm loving seeing more weapons on that baby. And I'm also digging seeing the cylindrical shape of the nacelles underneath the square supports...
great work, looks truly fantstic now. still think that more pronounced panel lines could be helpful, or ribs like on galactica. engine exhausts should have some lens flare. you did a really good job of taking the nacelles from being the weakest point to being objects to behold.
I consider it a personal failure that I can't articulate in words the gasping disbelief made famous by the Three Stooges and Austin Powers, but I'll try: wiwiwiwiwiwiwiiii... whuwhuwhuwhuwhuwhu... whuheeheeheehe..
They're gonna knock that Federation ship like a bumper car and not get a scratch.
I know it's been a while since I shared any cool ships with you all. Been doodling some but a bunch of them have been derivative and others just not good enough to share. I do like this one, it was inspired by a line in the "Year of Hell" two-parter. In my head it's like a toy that was glued back together in the wrong way, another little ship that's out there to salvage derelicts.
It is a cannon... but it's one of those "you can only use it once an episode" type of deals. It's how they knock out bigger ships in one punch, b/c that thing can't last through a battle for very long.
While doodling last night, I saw an SNL skit with an Army Drill Sargeant and I noticed his emblem and thought to make the Trek version of it. These little things are the best of what I came up with (the rest are crummy and detailed for details sake, not something I dig).
And normally I don't share designs this rough, but I saw this collapsed chimney on a website about Russia's heavytech decay and thought it looked like a spaceship. I haven't found a nice corresponding piece to be its' stern, so it's still half-drawn and in my un-overdone style. This is what all my drawings looked like a few short years ago.
I also did some concept doodles for 3-D printed masks for a story idea I had, just playing around but they're not really sci-fi-y so I didn't upload them.
New stuff! I've been... well, multiple things, so I haven't had a chance to update in a while, but here you all go!
A low-power ship with a thin skin, it's meant to be a ship used by salvage scrappers. There's meant to be arms so they can grab stuff, but I haven't figured out how to get them to mesh with the design yet. The wings can move, and basically being in one of those suckers feels like you're in a roller coaster (they are kid-sized).
Okay, I MEANT to design a POS over-repaired robot... sort of like a Game Of Thrones/Star Wars type thing, but instead I wound up designing this old PC looking thing instead. Oh well.
There was an article on io9 about spaceships that are powered by microsingularities called Schwartzweld Kugelblitz ships, which fueled my imagination for these designs as well as doing Hogans Heroes in space lines "Hoooogan, vhat happened to ze microsingularity?" "I know nutzing... NUTZING!"
Okay, and these two came to me last night, I got glimpses in my head of a new style Star Trek bridge. I was trying to get the feel of the angles I saw, I'm actually not sure what the whole layout would be. I liked the idea of a ring of littler screens around the ceiling, even if it is financially unfeasible (the "upper" ring is just lights).
The other part I remember is...
This helm console... Maybe there's two of these and I was just seeing a "rebuild" bridge for another ship, like they would do on the show where they just scramble elements around to make it look different, but these babies are black padded with just beautiful blue button outlines and touch-glass interfaces.
Thanks! I like the idea of the Glider... especially how flimsy it's supposed to feel! It's really only designed to work in motion, I always imagined it being launched out of the mothership (I haven't figured out how anyone manages to hijack one yet), and in motion everything works in this nice harmony, but when it's stopped, it feels like the most dangerous thing in space, no way could it actually work type of thing. You pull on a lever and the WHOLE wing does a wide FLUMP and clatter, you wouldn't be surprised if you just popped the whole thing off by accident.
When the characters get out, the thing is dinged up like crazy and the bottom is burned so bad they were a a few millimeters away from a breach. THIS close.
Those German ships... as I consider ideas for my long-overdue space story, I think the ship that's eventually used may be a distant relative of one of these.
it's fairly cool but given the shape, size and lack of large engines i think it really ought to be only a pod for purely exoatmospheric work(like you see in 2001 or the maintainence furies in babylon 5). the window arrangement you have used makes it look larger than the drawing appeared but it's a cool alternative design for that bit.
I haven't been able to load the forum for a couple days (was anyone else getting porno redirects?) so I ahven't seen these up until now. I dig 'em a lot! Yeah, I was thinking they'd get in via the canopies but I like that wall leech idea a ton! That way when the characters land they can fall out backwards onto the floor!
The mothership has that same frail thing going on... half of it's made of scrap, so I guess I better start drawing up some designs for it.

Here is a size comparison with a familiar ship ( I did not build the Enterprise model):

Did this a short while ago but wasn't able to post it until now, a more origami inspired, boxy looking spaceship.

Shoehorn!
Working on some ideas, canopy will open in some fashion...
That my be a cool idea... Perhaps have them attach to the side of the mother ship, like little leeches...
