The engines are really nice, the only criticism I can think of is that with 6 really big ones there it's looking a little off-balance and overcrowded. The layout on the smaller one is perfect, though.
Thanks guys, I whipped up a quick Fralthi (enemy ship) to blow up. Based on some of John Douglass' awesome physical models. This one, in particular. He's very talented, I'd have cut myself open and bled out if I tried any of this shipbuilding in real life.
You can see how they could fit some fighters in there, but definitely not the ideal carrier. More of a through deck cruiser.
Good grief I like this Fralthi. Needs to be bigger for something that holds 60 something fighters but otherwise a very nice addition. Good job...I don't know though if you designed it but the modeling is very nice. I really envy your greebling.

Thanks Saquist, I was thinking somewhere around 12-18 fighters for this version. Pretty tight in there anyway, but she scales out to about 538 meters as is. My Kilrathi fighters are also a couple meters shorter than cannon, as I've scaled them to fit a sitting Kilrathi pilot, still allowing that they like their cockpits BIG.
just seen that fralthi ship, awesome. that is a brilliant design with those foreplanes and those arch shapes at the rear, i wish i had designed it. also good details and textures, you should do some kind of fighter craft in a similar shape. an interesting arrangement for the fighters but as it is a space craft you do not need a runway merely a hatch for the fighters to fly in to and out of, perhaps build some small launch bays along the outer edges of the foreplanes. and good engines as well. cannot wait to see more stuff if it is anything like that ship.
The new-new Claw looks really good, like the escort, LOVE the Fralthi, man that thing is beautiful. The proportions and overall shape are excellent and hanger-bay cut away is very interesting. Can't wait to see more!
One thing to consider Klavs, if that you really wouldn't stow all your fighter on the launch deck. The hanger would/could/should be seperate, so see if you have another space to park your craft and you should be able to increase the numbers. That being said ClawMarks did put way too many fighters in those ships.
Actually, IIRC the default Fralthi 'only' holds about 20 fighters by the original game manual (Claw Marks) which Klav's model is already close to; the 50-fighter complement comes from a later source (I think the movie tie-in handbook?) . But it's mentioned that there's several variants, and the Fralthi often serves in a 'light carrier role'; combining these ideas might yield a variant, maybe with a new hanger deck 'bolted on' below the main one and an elevator to bring the fighters up to the main hanger/flight deck? Presumably it would be more sluggish than the original model, but would have a fighter group closer to the movie's stated complement.
Nice idea Will, but I would say, rather than a bolt on hanger beneath, a bolt on hanger on the back of the current flight deck, that is wide enough for parking, and has the lower hanger level. That way from angles except below and behind it would be hidden and therefore an attacker might not know what they are up against at first.
Wminsing is correct, I did my sizing for around 20 fighters, the figure is technically cannon, at least according to this.
My versions of these ships are, at times, purposefully disregarding the cannon figures because making these ships for me is like doing a Bob Ross Painting, relaxing, amateurish, but if somebody else happens to like it, great!
So...The Snakir is a full carrier and the Fralthi is an escort carrier?
I know there is who list of ships in the Wing Commander bank but I hope the TCS Cerberus get this sort of make over....it needs it.
If anybody's interested, here is some video of the new 'Claw. Make sure you watch it in HD! I didn't spend a week rendering at 1920 x 1080 so you could watch it in a tiny window!
That's music from Wing Commander's Movie or a rearrangement of the music.
Very fitting but flyby's can get tedious in CGI vids. You need swoop in zooms and activity such as fighters as well as ambiant engine noise to really match the epicness of the music.
Damn pretty.
That said, Saquist has a point. The first sequence, with the ship being viewed from off its starboard bow there's a lot of engine flare visible but not much sense of motion. It could definitely use a bit of punching up.
And a bit of engine rumble wouldn't hurt.
Of course, since I don't render ANYTHING except incomplete short stories and novels ... who am I to talk? Good job!

I double checked my original(!) Claw Marks over the weekend and that figure is indeed correct.

Well I enjoy them; you do a great job of re-imaging the designs.
Oh, and here's an 800 meter long Snakier class carrier.
NICE! Looks amazing. Since we're on this topic, how fighters does this thing carry in the Klavs-verse?

As already mentioned the Fralthi is more of a cruiser, the fighters are presumably there to give the ship some additional scouting ability and provide a CAP if a proper carrier is not available. The out-of-setting reason for the fighters is that the ships had a bit of a 'Star Wars Flight Group' syndrome; a lot of the ships carried fighters, even if it seemed like there wasn't enough room for them. The WC1-era Confed destroyer supposedly carried 18 fighters....

Still nice work.

For a great start at creating a faithfully sized Tiger's Claw with the cannon figures for fighters, size, etc, check out Gevatter Lars' great work here: http://www.wcnews.com/chatzone/threads/need-creative-suggestions.18176/page-5

I think you can designate it as an escort carrier, however, the Fralthi is a 500 m long (lightly armed) cruiser.
