MAX question from a semi-noob!

I recently downloaded some Star Wars figures for MAX and so far, so good. The problem is that some of them have (and forgive me for un-technicality here) 'skeletons' enabling me to pose the figures while others are without this skeleton and I have no idea whatsoever how to pose them! Aaaaaaarrrrrggggghhhh!

A prime example is the Stormtrooper from Sci-Fi 3D. Great little figure but I can't pose it :( Any help?

chances are your skeleton is a biped. (if its green blue and yellow, it is.)
to pose it, you have to turn on animation (autokey). (even if you dont animate it, biped just works that way) it just need a keyframe to be in pose.

if the others have no skeleton of any kind, you'll want to rig it. easiest way for a semi noob is using a biped.
google it, cause its a bit technical and long.

Many many thanks L2K! Yeah, you're absolutely right, there are both biped (BIP) and unrigged characters as well so I'll Google as suggested. Thanks a lot!
