OK, since the Essential Guide to Warfare is now officially out, I'll be posting some of my work. High resolution shots and WIPs of some of the models, drip feed over the next few weeks as I dust stuff off and deal with real life.
Let's get it started with this one:
"Naval Station Validusia"
Nice, and great to see all the various ISD classes and smaller ship models that you've released in the past all on show here. Were they built specifically for this job, or did they hire you thanks to all the Star Wars based work you'd already released?
The ships were all approved for use in the art for the book, but in this image, only the station was specifically built for the project. There were plenty of models I were commissioned specifically for the book however. I'll post more of that stuff in the future, including some WIPs for the models.
And here we were all wondering when would they hire you to make official models for Star Wars to get much better results instead of just… stealing them.
I saw an image from the book the other day but had not had a chance to send you an e-mail. Congratulations on your outstanding achievement. All that hard work has made you an official Star Wars artist and it is long overdue for the recognition. I have always loved your work and am so happy that others in the main stream can enjoy it as well. I am looking forward to more.

Thanks! Hopefully I'll get a chance to do some more official stuff. *fingers crossed*
I have two questions: Is the red glow on the planet due to hell breaking loose there because of the orbital bombardment? And, how many of the images have TIE-Defenders on them? I thought they didn't have a widespread use… Or maybe the illustrations with those huge capital ships contain fleets of high importance and were among the few they were assigned to.
Nice, loving the glowing result of the orbital bombardment. It is often mentioned how devastating a full fleet orbital bombardment is to the surface of a planet, literally turning the surface molten, but I don't think it has ever been shown before until now, and how beautifully this image illustrates the process.
Nice job Fractal, think I may be purchasing this book as well.

1) Yes, the goal was to show geological damage from the impact, with the atmosphere going beserk at so much heat being introduced so quickly to a single point. This is the beginning of the bombardment.
2) Defenders are in this and the Validusia refueling station pic.
3) Yep, with that many star dreadnoughts, both units are going to be high importance.
Here's another one that was in the promotional art releases for the book, but high-res and no watermark:
Also, here are some final and WIP shots of the ISDI. I was asked not to do a full studio replicate, so it was just bridge and turret modifications to the ISDII model.
And is there any chance we'll see more of Giel's Star Destroyer / aka Praetor MkII / aka that big ship that looks like it a has a wee bit of Corellian influence?
wow maginificent work fractal really amazing you should try building the sith destroyer from star wars the old republic online game with your hand I'm sure it will become a masterpiece
You should make Demolisher. I could never do it justice. It is such a cool smallish ship and would make a great addition to the fleet and your catalog. I still got my crappy mesh on the ol' harddrives. perhaps when you get ready to build it (if you do that it) I will send you the files for you to look at. I always liked the bridge setup of Demolisher and I think my bridge turned out rather well( considering what I built the dang thing in)
Was your Harrower model the one used in the third ToR trailer?
Nope, that was a different model, by Blur(?) or whoever it was that did all the trailers. I'm fairly sure my model has some divergences from the trailer one, but it's pretty close I think.

Excellent work as always.
I bet mooring fees are extortionate, too...
Congratulations on this! That image is awesome!
And now I have one more reason to buy that book…

And a new one for today.

Nice to see these images getting the attention they deserve, Ansel.

Fractal are you going to try make the Demolisher,Gladiator class stardestroyer?
I have WIPs of the Praetor II, which will come in time, along with more WIPs leading to an actual finished model .

I'm guessing they didn't ask you for a Victory-class, right? Ah well… :-P
