Well, I guess some introductions are in order. My name's Sean and I'm helping create a BSG d20 rpg. I've done many character and ships stats blocks for the project. Someone was asking once about suitable minis to use for the game so I decided to create counters, scale drawings for use on a gaming board. These were in a scale of 1" equals 500'. The original drawings were very crude but I had the idea of scaling them up and using them as schematics, especially for the designs that I had created so that people could see what they looked like. I decided to post them since I figured y'all enjoy them. They're not in the league of people like BJ (who inspired me to do them in the first place with his Viper Mk II) but I'm pretty happy with them. They are a definate WIP. :)

The Mk IVB in the pic my idea for a post-Cylon War Viper. I figured that the fleet would be downsizing and would have little money, like any post-war military. It is a Mk I refitted with new engines, wings, weapons, avionics, and cockpit. (Can you tell that I'm an aviation nut?) I have more that I'll post later.

EDIT 5/5/08: Replaced pic with WIP VF-4 Max Jenius Type. I'll put the Viper pic back later.

Nicely done! Your Mark IVB looks like an obvious progression from the Mark I. I'd say it would be more in line as a... let's say Mark IB.

    Clean design though.

    Keep up the good work!

    That's a very good extrapolation.:)

Thanks a lot for the compliments. :)

I decided to name the Mk IV that because it was such a redesign that I figured it warranted it's own number. The B in Mk IVB is because the Mk IVA has it's guns like the Mk I, close to the cockpit on the hardpoints. I decided to move them out on the wings like the Mk VII and the IVB was born. I have the de Santo Viper as the Mk III btw. I'm naming them like the RAF/RN does. For example, the two seat Viper Mk I trainer I did is the Viper T.Mk I while the nuclear strike varient of the T is the N.Mk I (based on the Mirage 2000N).

So far, I have a Mk I, II, III, IV, V, and VII, T.Mk I, II, and VII, four varients of the T.Mk I, one of the T.Mk II and VII, a PR and FR.Mk I, a GA.Mk III, a civilian Viper Mk I and others that I'll post later.

I'd definitely like to see your other Vipers.

Did you include the Scarlet Viper? Or, I guess it's called, the Scorpion? It's like the Mark one but had flat wings. I forget which episode of TOS Battlestar it was in, but they were using it as a patrol ship. I think Starbuck even said it was an old design.

I was never a big fan of the Scarlet Viper but I did incorporate it. I did a Viper EW.Mk I which is a modification of the T.Mk I. It is intended for ECM and EW escort for fighter and strike missions, like the Raptor can do later. I incorporated the wings of the Scarlet Viper into the design, mounting ecm pods on the tips instead of lasers. I'm still thinking about incorporating the engine design somewhere.

Oh, and I did do a dorsal of the Scorpion, I'll finish it sometime. I also did an updated version that I call the Scorpion Mk IV, a modified Viper Mk VII that is more suited for atmospheric combat, containing swing wings, wheeled landing gear, etc.

Here are three more, the trainer versions of the Mk I and II and the EW version of the Mk II. The EW is based (idea-wise) on the EA-6A and B Prowlers and the EF-111 Raven aircraft. It's wings come from the EW.Mk I which come from the Scarlet Viper.

Holy Crap! I'm an inspiration now!

I wouldn't sell yourself short. These are very nice, and I especially like the fact that you have some of your own original designs. I keep trying to do my own original designs, but I'm my own worst critic! Are you creating these in Photoshop (as listed under your name), or another program?

Keep up the good work! :thumb:

Thanks, I'm actually doing these in Publisher using the line tool. Your's are definately awesome, keep up the good work too.

Here are the T.Mk I variants. The FGA is a ground attack/wild weasel type craft, based on the F-100F, F-105F/G, and F-4G. The pods on the forward fuselage are defensive ecm pods containing jammers and such. The N.Mk I is a nuclear strike bird, designed for pinpoint nuclear strikes on Cylon basestars. It has the improved engines of the Mk IV and bulges in the wings to store the nuclear weapons (2 missiles usually). The Mirage 2000N was the inspiration for the design. Finally, the EW.Mk I is the electronic warfare escort, designed to jam and otherwise disrupt enemy sensors and protect a fighter or strike squadron. It is based on the EA-6B and EF-111. The Scarlet Viper was the inspiration for the wings on the EW.

Time to break the title of the thread with some capital ships. :D The Big-G was the first one I did, before the Vipers and hasn't been redone since then, I probably will eventually. Anyway, it shows the basic shape and weapon locations and is in scale for the game. The Mercury is done from a damage display from "The Captain's Hand" as a base and a whole lot of guess work but I think it came out well. Last up is the Scorpion Mk IV I mentioned in a post above.

Sweet work mate:thumb:... I'm a little embarassed to ask, but: Are you the guy who asked to use my viper design?

Thanks. I don't think I did, all I'm looking for are good Mk VII and/or Blackbird orthos. Which Viper design was yours, was it the reboot that BJ did a picture of?

It dosn't have a designation I think... it's the one where the pilot can't see out the front:lol:

Sorry for asking.... you wouldn't believe how many people ask to use the disgn for this or that:o

    Again sweet work mate:thumb:

No prob, it is a sweet design though, good job. :D

I liked it too Larsen. Like I said on B.J.'s thread, it would make a much better Viper Bomber than the one used in the PS2/XBOX Battlestar Galactica game. Then you could explain the lack of pilot line of sight by use of targeting cameras and computers.

The design they used was a bit... funky...

Talos, have you designed a bomber? I'd like to see that.

    Nice clean lines there kiddo!

I haven't designed a bomber yet, I've had a few design floating around in my head though. The closest I've done is a modified Scorpion Mk IV (from the top of the page) with two-seat cockpit and larger, fixed wings. It's the F-15E Strike Eagle of my designs.:D

Here's another one, the demilitarized Viper Mk I. It is a civilian Viper like the post-war warbirds that you see flying around at air shows and air races.
  • B.J.B.J.1 Posts: 0Member
An air racer version? Cool! I hadn't even thought of that!

I figured that there'd be surplus Vipers after the war. What better way is there to use them. :D

Here's another one, it's a photo-recon Viper, modified with improved engines, recon gear, and removal of it's weapons. I drew this and was looking at it and realized that after all of that, I had drawn CORA (without the annoying AI).:o I'm not completely satisfied with the recon pods and will probably change them in the future.

Since Safe@2nd wanted me to, I worked out a light bomber design. It's just a dorsal view for now, I'll hammer out a side view later. It's design is based on the SU-34 and F-111 bombers. It's mission, ground attack and strafing, as well as missile attacks, is based on the A-26 and B-25J. The wings are variable geometry, folding upwards for storage. The wingtips also fold for trim in atmosphere. It has a tail gun controlled by the gunner. I call it the Spectre Mk I.

These aren't BSG but I thought I'd post 'em anyway. They are all nowhere near being finished (thus the seams on the Ambassaor and the front line on the Miranda) and I haven't touched them in awhile. Enjoy, they are self-explanatory.:)

    Talos,

The Spectre Mk I looks very impressive, I love the added bounus of the tail gun mount and the departure from the "tri engine" design.
  • TalosTalos0 Posts: 0Member
Thanks. I decided that a tail gun would be more useful than a third engine. I'll start on a side view after I finish the Mk VII, thanks again for the orthos. They are awesome.:thumb:

    :D

The Serenity's Fab so far :thumb: Also quite a complicated shape as well ;)
  • Safe@2ndSafe@2nd0 Posts: 0Member
I like your bomber so far! It'd be interesting to see the side view to see how the tail gunner sees.

Nice work on Serenity and the Trek ship too!
  • quetzalquetzal0 Posts: 0Member
Those viper variants look nice, can't wait to see more.
  • TalosTalos0 Posts: 0Member
Choo: Thanks, the Serenity's shape is a pain to do, but it it a beautiful ship and a fav of mine so it's worth the hassle.

Safe: The tail gunner sits between and behind the pilot and copilot and uses several camera and sensors below the tail gun like the radars on the B-52H.

Quetzal: Don't worry, more are coming, I'm working on a Mk VII based on the orthos Viper Aviator graciously let me use.
