Hey!
My next project will be to model and texture the, in my opinion, coolest rifle ever to be created!

The M41A Pulse Rifle from the movie Aliens.

I've gathered tons of reference, but many of them are photos of replicas people have created themselves, so they're not always accurate, so I will try to take the middle road, seeing as there is not many good ref pictures from the movie.

Here is a rough blockout I've made:

Cheers! :)

You know these weapons were built around a Thompson M1, and i think an Italian model of shotgun for the grenade launcher...? might help you with working out the dimensions and proportions if you start with them. Looks like a pulse rifle so far though, good start.:thumb:

Yeah, I think it was the SPAS-12 Shotgun that was used for the grenade launcher. :)

    this is an impressive start.

You guys are right it is a Thompson M1 and a spas-12 shotgun....read an articel in airsoft international on how you can make one or but the full complete kit with working ammo counter...also showed you how to look like a colonial marine....:)

That is a nice start. I love the pulse rifle too and I am looking forward to seeing your progress.

by the way the guys here are correct about the M1 Thompson being used for the automatic part of the weapon however the grenade launcher was based on the Remington 870 shotgun.
The mag and ejection opening give it away, the SPAS12 has a small cocking handle protruding. They only used SPAS12 grips for the GL.
    Hope that helps

Thank you all for your help guys! :)
I've started modeling the highpoly now.

Here's where I'm at so far:

I also recorded a few tutorials while making it.
I will continue to make recordings while I start working on the lowpoly.

nice work, I like it. thanks for posting your tutorial videos, it is always nice to see how someone else goes about creating a model.

    Thank you! :)
I'm just happy if I can help someone with my tutorials!
The reason I make these is because when I started modeling I had problems finding videos where I could see others' workflows.

Just bumping this, because I'd really love some crits on the proportions etc. ^^

looking good mate (best film weapon ever!), just a few things though, overall it doesnt look (for want of a better word) chunky enough, this is more noticeable on the casing around the thompson (looking at these images for reference http://www.m41a.com/

Also the lip on the front side comes up to far and is not wide enough... looking forward to seeing more updates, love this weapon!

Overall....AWESOME! The only thing I see that I don't like is the grenade barrel, it looks like it "flares" out in a cone shape. Otherwise, da** near, spot-on!

Thank you both for your crits! I really appreciate it, and I will definately take what you said into consideration when I work on it next time! :)
