Hi all! When I first saw this ship in the TAS episode 'Time Trap', I thought she was ugly as hell. But for some reason, her rather ungraceful lines stayed with me and eventually she grew on me. I really liked the idea of a pre-Federation heavy cruiser that was the pinnacle achievement of her day and was suddenly lost in the Delta Triangle, only to be rediscovered by her decendants over a century later!
Anyways, anyone who knows me on here knows that I just can't let a good ship down, so in typical fashion, I've given her a bit of a facelift! So far, the engines are more or less the same, but the secondary hull has been 'Mon-Calamarised'. So just like those massive Mon Cal ships in Star Wars, I've given her more of those graceful tear-drop shaped protuberances from the main hull. The bulk of the hull was actually inspired by a tortoise shell (I know, I know. God knows where this stuff comes from in my brain, it just does! LOL! ) She still needs a lotta work, mainly on the texture side of things as I think most of my work on the actual structure has been done.
This is a bit of a weird one for me, so I'd really like loads of feedback, good or bad. Cheers all, C_S

My point of view to the original, is that it is okay.
Most of the arguments against it don't make sense.
Think!
It is the mid 21th century. Just what kind of computers would they have? Even assuming that computer developement was slowed down, it wouldn't affect matters too much.
Why? Because any design study that goes to build, will have done a great deal of extensive work on computers before it even starts to build.
This means that this was the best design that could be found - after Zephram Cochrane discovered the space warp.
Now to explain the differences between the Bonaventure, and the Enterprise-nil. Simple. The Bonaventure was designed to travel at warp one. the Enterprise-nil was designed to travel at warp six.
In the meantime, I've done what I can by adding textures to the warp assembly and the secondary hull. I must say, it really does help to bring the ship to life! Here's what I've come up with so far...:thumb:

Here she is with most of her textures complete. If I do decide to add more detail or anything, I'll probably just go ahead and update the model and post it straight onto sketchup.

And for those who wish to view the 3D model, here's the link to it on Sketchup.

As to whom did the Bonaventure several years ago, it was somebody called Thomas7G.
Masao also did a work up.
Hmmmm, she's... ermm, uuh, cute (?)
You're right: on the first (and maybe also on the second and third) view, she's - let's say: less attractive than a connie
Somehow i like the secondary hull!
Chanur, because I've seen your work on the Romulan Bird of Prey and the Dreadnought, I know that you have a keen eye for all things TOS. Therefore, I say this from the heart, that there's no need to be polite about this ship. She is FUGLY! Lol! Hated the original when I first saw her, and when doing redesign, I had no real plan in my head about what she would look like when finished. But I think she's got that annoying quality of slowly creeping in to your good graces until you eventually like her! That's what happened with me and I hope the same will happen to you. Just keep looking...
You know, I was thinking about some fan fiction about "Bad Luck Bonaventure" and how the ship was repeatedly lost, found lost again, etc. The ship started as an early warp vessel that went wrong, briefly, then got uprated to Rick Sternbachs design, modified to become what we saw in TAS then lost for good. Later, the ship recovered extra Debris from the Narada's implosion, adding to confusion in the new timeline for the Relativity to have to fix..
Thanks for the info. It might be nice to have a link to them if possible.
Here is another iteration or three--from the Metaluna design school:

So help me, only the Kobyashi Maru has been drawn in so many ways. Now Enterprise has been drawn the most with slight changes to its hull, but the overall look is about the same. Bonaventure, the Maru, and the Excelsior primary hull?
All bets are off.
So to add a little unique quality to my version, I've decided to give her the ability to land on planet surfaces. I know it's not cannon, but I really like the way she looks with her landing gear extracted.
