For lack of a better title.
Instead of making a series of (mostly) uncompleted project threads, I figured I may as well just start a new one and post all my junk here.
First off are a couple of Trek, (yes...more Trek) designs. About 11 or so years ago, I tried to build the USS Miranda. I'm sure that since STII:Wrath of Khan came out, a bunch of fans have tried to design a precursor to the Reliant. Flat hulled ship with underslung engines and a roll bar.
Well, these first images are of my attempts with my then noobish 3D skills.
So, like a lot of modelers, I started by rebuilding the saucer section, then moved onto the rear hull part, and decided to re-purpose the engines from my TOS-styled DS9 Defiant.

That's when I remembered that for the original series, each Ship had it's own insignia. Enterprise's familiar Arrowhead, Defiant's boomerang, and some more... creative designs which baffle me. Taking a cue from the design notes for the USS Reliant (so says the internetz!), the name Miranda for the Miranda Class is taken from Shakespeare's
The Tempest which in turn was named after one of Saturn's Moons.

After I got the basic shape down - which took rebuilding and recutting all parts several times for "just the right look." I linked some images to friends and one of them suggested I add the backward rake to the engine pylons. I wasn't sure at first, but after a few tries and putting things together, the design modification (which matched my original model oddly enough) looked pretty good.
That's when I figured the majority of the build was done. All that was left were the smaller details. Windows and textures mostly.

Neat stuff!
I got an idea for an image to stick this model in. I remembered the scene from STII where the Enterprise dropped down behind the Reliant and shot the crap out of it. Which gave me an idea for an image (I've yet to make) that I'll call "The Miranda Manuver." It'll feature a Romulan BoP painted in Klingon colors, and a TOS styled Klingon BoP or two.
It's just that I've never seen a Klingon BoP done in a TOS style. Well, this morning during a half-asleep run of artistic inspiration, I meshed this out in a straight 5 hour run.
Try Chrome: it's blisteringly fast compared to the other two.
Thanks!
I'll have to check out Chrome.Been meaning to try it, but haven't bothered yet.
Detailing a TOS design can be a little tricky for me. I see all of this open space and I just want to put something there. The greebled Reliant is a stark contrast to the clean shapes from Jeffries' designs.
Now... Detailed the Klingon BoP and gave my Romulan BoP a Klingon paint job.

Yeah, I like how it turned out, too. Both are a "Bird of Prey," though. Although I have no idea what the Klingon name for the Klingon style BoP would be called.
Today, I made a robot head. ::shrugs::
It has kind of a "Transformers" sensibility to it. I like it.
It does, doesn't it! Didn't plan that. I just started with a sphere and ended up with that after an hour or so.
On an unrelated note: I've never done a Star Wars model before. Not sure what to try if I attempt one.
Maybe someting small and civilian? Everyone usually goes right for the uber-Star Destroyer type ships, but there's a ton of interesting-looking freighters and speeders and such that barely get any love.

Just 3 at random. Hope this give you somewhere to start.
Small? Check!
Civilian? Well... maybe not so much.
You mentioned speeder and my mind instantly went to the Speeder Bike from the third (or 6th) movie. Then of course what's a spdeeder bike without the Scout Trooper?
I'm not too happy with the helmet. My first attempt and I'll probably rebuild most of it over again.
Surya and Coventry, the Anton were fine--as was Blood & Fire's Copernicus, or this: http://federationreference.prophpbb.com/topic6.html
However, your ship looks closest to what Reliant looked like pre-refit.
OK, Scout Trooper helmet v2. Still not perfect, but it's a marked improvement over my previous attempt.

If you are interested in doing other Romulans, I would recommend that you give Atolm's designs a look see. My avi is one of his designs.
That's an idea. Although I'm trying to expand my horizons a bit. For instance the Scout Trooper and speeder bike will be my first foray into the Star Wars universe of design. The helmet has been a challenge because of the face mask part. That and I'm attempting to model a humanoid shape. Before that there were the Star Trek series of ship designs. Before that I did a lot of stuff in the BattleTech universe.
As for the Romulan BoP, perhaps you prefer the original paint scheme? http://lady-die.deviantart.com/art/At-Last-Report-98104950
Any Legend of Zelda fans out there? For some time I've been picking at a version (my own) of the Temple of Time/Sacred Grove scene. Especially the Temple Ruins from the game Twilight Princess.
A few years ago I did this scene based on the Master Sword pedestal from the artwork in the game's booklet for The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. http://lady-die.deviantart.com/art/Legend-of-Zelda-Master-Sword-48356218
I got the idea to expand on the Temple Ruins concept by building the sword chamber, then ruining it! To expand on the central design I plan to add a series of relief sculptures on the walls depicting scenes from the game's lore and scenes from the titles.
Which means building a series of statues to create said relief sculptures... That's a bit of work to try and design objects that have little reference in the original source material.
Happy Easter everybunny!

I have to say that I love the Zelda stuff!
I think I will go play Twilight Princess today ... gotta dust off my Wii

Happy Easter
Thanks everyone! A number of people have told me that my little robot eggs are cute. I may use them again sometime in the future.
As for the Zelda scene, it's been a beast of a build. I haven't been able to get back to it fully yet. It's like I have some sort of artistic ADD. All these ideas, so many starts and stops. But I've gotten so much done with that one particular render so far. Also I recently reinstalled VUE so hopefully I'll be able to get the environment I have in mind later on.
Which by the way, VUE 5 Infinite was the program I used for the final render. I had problems importing trueSpace objects into it at first. But as can be seen, I managed to work it out in the end.
It's the PHX-4L Phoenix Hawk, featured on the cover of Technical Readout: Project Phoenix. I first tried to build this model when WizKids (then owner of the BattleTech franchise) published preview images of a number of designs back in... 2003 or so. With just the original 3/4 view artwork as my sole reference, I tried to work out the full design.
Basically I wanted to be the first to build a 3D model of the thing. Turns out a lot of fans didn't like the "Reseen" 'Mechs. But I did create a low-poly model for use in a number of games (IS3028, BattleTech Simulator, etc.). And used the game model in an early 3D image: A Game With Dice.
So here it is, my rebuild and completed model. After v1 was done 7 years ago.
http://lady-die.deviantart.com/art/PHX-4L-Phoenix-Hawk-Rebuilt-161610345
I also ended up completely rebuilding the saucer. Turns out I had a number of major geometry errors in my previous build. It was just easier (and this time, faster) to rebuild it.
Since I couldn't figure out a good set up for my "Miranda Maneuver" idea, I moved onto this potential setup. I originally had the Romulan BoP with the Klingon paint scheme, but it didn't look right when centered in this composition. So...
Seems I need to build a D7.

So far I've just textured the top. Still need to build the engines, and forward part of the ship. Plus all the lil' details like disruptors and phasers and torp launchers.
