3DSomething "Weird" - The USS Archon

Ok, so over here, and on the Trekbbs board, there have been all kinds of Daedalus class ships showing up recently, and I saw one image (I can't find it again) showing a Daedalus with Kelvinized parts. So, I thought I would build something similar.

I warned you, this is weird. :)

I named it the Archon; Apparently it was supposed to have been a Daedalus class, originally. Maybe this is what it looked like. :)

This is still very preliminary; I haven't even smoothed out the shapes yet.

What do you guys think?

I like it! :D It looks a bit like one that I drew once! (don't worry, you have never seen my drawing.)

It gives the Dadalus style of ship balance, whilst also reducing the Dadalus style's ungainly profile.

    Thats very cool indeed!

One suggestion, which i'm not sure will work, aesthetically: The way warp nacelles supposedly work mean that having them so close together on either side would not bring much benefit.

Perhaps you can stagger the way they are stacked? Get a little more verticle distance between the nacelles?

    Nice. :)

    Thanks guys. :)

Bmused55, they actually started out that way, spread apart more like the Nacelles on the Stargazer, but they looked funny. That's the only reason I moved them closer together. A poster at TrekBBS suggested that I connect them together at the front... I think that's the direction I'm going to go with, now.

Very interesting, but it looks cool. I don't know why but this ship looks (to me) like it is more of a civilian ship than a StarFleet ship. But that is my thought.

You have a good ship there, can't wait to see it finished, keep up the good work.

Thanks guys. I went on a tangent yesterday, while scifi-meshes was down, but the guys at TrekBBS set me straight.

Here's what I was messing with:
    Archon_WIP_007.jpg

and this was probably the strongest dislike of it. :)

nope, the new version doesn't do it for me, either. now it just looks like a pack of bic pens had a drunken orgy with some sort of optometrist's instrument, and nine months later...

if you're going to do the four nacelle thing, do it. show 'em if you've got 'em.

So, here's where I backpedaled to, and started detailing:

Definately cool. Looking forward to the detailing on the keg (not a saucer, and not quite a spere eh?)

No, the "caps" over the naceles donA’t look the right choice. Keep with your configuration. ;)

Wow, it's been a while since I've posted anything. I hope everyone had a good Christmas/Holiday, and hopefully everyone got to take a break. :)

I think I have finished this one as far as it will go. It's really a background ship, so I'm not going to go too crazy with it.

    Here goes...

I so like this! It's refreshing takes on old designs and concepts that keep me coming back for more, especially when the completed work looks so good. Well done mate! :thumb:

I agree this is just one awsome ship. Makes me think of a ship that would have been in the Romulan war!
  • AresiusAresius359 Posts: 4,171Member
wow, now that's unique. A deadalus with two nacelles and chopped of domes...
Well, I kinda like it, though.

Weird is right, but I've always liked weird in Trek designs, the same old same old can get a little boring.

    Very nicely done!

I was thinking J.J. Abrams when looking at this, so I checked the OP, so you definitely captured that. I think it's great looking, but I think the nacelles aren't quite Abrams enough.

[edit] Oops, I forgot to say that I like this ship quite a bit.
