Tempting for me to request a Shuttlebay 3 for the Galaxy-class USS Constellation: NCC-71956 (you did the bridge for me), with a Type 6 TNG-style Shuttlecraft (08, the Sendler) and a Type 7 Shuttlecraft (05, the Lutz) - both named for heroes who helped persecuted people during the WW2 Holocaust. Although I don't know if you are taking requests.

The type 6 shuttle came out great. I like the slight differences between the versions.

    Sweet!
Reminds me that I still have to finish that second iteration of a Type-17 for 3D printing (first model was all the way back in 2010). pdizxvu739ax.png

Thanks for all the comments, I'm glad you liked the Type 6!

    @Rusty0918: I'm afraid I'm not taking requests, no :)

@lennier1: Would love to see it too!

Had to do this one as well, didn't I? I intended to finish it during the weekend, but I had other priorities as my partner had been hospitalized for a few weeks, and was given the weekend to return home for a bit, so I spent little time on the PC.

Modeling's mostly done, but I still have to do all the textures. This one will be for the USS Victory.

    Awesome job!
Are you planning to make the Generations salvage variant at a later point, since it's essentially just added side windows and a new paintjob?
And if video games aren't your thing, check out a "game movie" of the new Resurgence game, their beautiful rendition of a shuttlebay with a bigger budget should be right up your alley.

And thanks. Hope your partner will soon feel better again.

@lennier1: Thanks! I doubt I'll do the Generations one any time soon, I just don't like how anachronistic it looks, plus those weird taller side windows it has for some reason. And it's actually quite different, it has a totally changed ventral area, and it doesn't have the oval protrusions at the sides above the nacelles.
As for Resurgence, I did watch gameplay of it all, I wasn't exactly impressed with how it looked or played. Perhaps I'm biased, they contacted me years ago to provide interiors for the game, only to then stop replying to any of my emails, so I wasn't expecting great things with that level of professionalism.

Wanted to finish the TFF shuttle today, but after work I didn't feel like UV mapping, so I started just goofing around on Blender and thought that the two oval shaped protrusions at each side of the shuttle could be hardpoints for modules to be attached. So I did a rollbar which follows the lines of the shuttle, and a basic AWACS style dish (I did check, the doors have more than enough clearance).

This is very early and low poly as you can see, more of a concept really. I figure Victory with its 7 shuttlebays could have one or two of these dedicated shuttles for entering and studying nebulae or other spatial phenomena. Maybe I can do other variants with Saratoga-style sensors or Soyuz-style antennas. Yay or nay on the whole hardpoints/rollbar idea?

The game itself has a ton of weaknesses, but the people who built the Federation interior sets were worth their money and then some.
Their shuttle hangar essentially looks like someone minified the main hangar from the Stage 9 project.
The game has this scene about two hours in that shows some of the hangar:

Like I said in my previous message, I did see it and am completely unimpressed.

The hangar is based on the Discovery one which looks very out of place in the 2380's, but I guess that was the direction requested. The shuttles also have the wrong markings for the era. there's that lack of attention in all the finer details which leaves me a bit disappointed that this is an official product in 2023. As another example, at the end of the game several other ship bridges are visible on screen, and they're just a generic LCARS background behind the Captain, all with the same colors and Captain's chair, it's the same map used over and over.

The graphics are meh and both texture resolution and poly density leave a lot to be desired given it's running on UE, same engine we used on the Roddenberry Archive virtual exhibition and capable of a lot more. Most of the assets seemed to have been done by the cheapest available external modeling houses (a prevalent problem in the modern gaming industry), and it shows.

Also, seems like whoever designed the transporter room took a bit of inspiration from the USS Galaxy transporter room @Rusty0918 and I did years ago. Besides the similar color pallet, even the fire extinguisher is exactly the same...

The stupid part is why they used that shuttle. They did it for a scene with Picard inside it that wound up on the cutting room floor. The scene would have allowed them to use the interior from STV. I wouldn't have a problem with the shuttle if it had the registry from either the Miranda or Oberth class ships that showed up to rescue the Enterprise. But nope, they had to slap 1701-D on the side of it. :eyeroll:

I like the AWACS also. You could have all sorts of modules up there; weapons pod, sensor suite, collector, luggage carrier, whatever.

@evil_genius_180: Yeah, I don't understand why they didn't just use the Type 6, it had a full interior as well and was much more fitting. Perhaps the producers, in their infinite wisdom, thought it looked too "cheap" for the big screen. Making it a shuttle belonging to the rescuing ships would've made a ton more sense now that you mention it.

@JoeMcMullen: Thanks! Yes, that's the idea with the rollbar style supports. :)

I played with other shapes that conform more to the shape of the shuttle for the AWACS module (like the aforementioned triangle or an Oberth-style one), but they end up reminding me of something else, so a circle it is.

    tadeo-d-oria-screenshot-from-2023-06-07-01-07-17.jpg?1686111115

I made it a smaller circumference though, and I think it works a lot better now. I added details but I wanted to leave it relatively sparse, like something they could've built and bolted on top of the shuttle on set. As you can see I've also finished with the liveries. I still have to add some details though, specifically those black and red stickers the shuttle had all over the side.

@Rekkert - I never noticed that, and I've played "Star Trek: Resurgence." I have to say, I like the fact they included the fire extinguisher!

Really love the idea of using those stubby "wings" as attachment points for additional hardware, kinda like how they integrated the rollbar option on Runabouts by explaining it as giving all those greebles slapped onto the wings a purpose.

There's more than a bit of similarity there, was the Galaxy part of any portfolio stuff you sent them when discussing the project before they went silent? Not exactly an impressive showing of professionalism on their part.

I am loving that design, the late TMP era design work by the production teams on the movies has also been a favourite of mine and that's a great addition. Any chance of an ortho on it?

@neotrident: lol, no I didn't show them anything specifically, though they contacted me, so I'm sure they had come across my portfolio beforehand. Still, I just find it funny more than anything else. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Well, I've added the remaining 'decals' so I'm calling the Type 4 finished. I have other attachments in progress but they're mostly concepts and I don't feel like continuing with those at the moment.

Here are some finished renders of them, plus orthos for both the 4 and 6. I should now go back to the Type 7 and 15 and do orthos of them...

Thanks for the kind comments! I went ahead and re-rendered my older Type 7 and Type 15 models, just so they fit with the same style as these, and did orthos as well. They're really old models, with some really terrible work in some areas, but oh well, I did update them a little back when I did the Potemkin shuttlebay. That Type 7 Bussard area still bothers me though, it's all sorts of wrong.

Because I don't know when to leave stuff alone, I went back and redid all the orthos with the shuttles "online"; so the warp grills, lights and such are now illuminated on them all (except for the Type 15, no consistent lights on that thing). So recheck the previous two posts I guess heh.

    Your models are gorgeous.

The Type 7 is just so perfect. It really says "TNG" to me. Plus, if you go back to the original design by Matt Jefferies for the TOS shuttle, he wanted a sleek and streamlined vehicle. It's just a shame that the Type 7 never really worked on screen due to the inaccurate full size mock-up.

I always wondered how they got into the Type 7. The rear indent with the red impulse drive in the middle seems like a hatch, but why would you put an engine in the center of a door?
I thought there was a first season episode showing a landed shuttle with side doors open, "Skin of Evil" maybe.

@evil_genius_180: Thanks! Haha, J see my Type 7 mesh and just see all that's wrong with it, it's a very old mesh. Agree regarding its use in TNG, would've loved to see it fully realized.

@Mustang13Camaro68: There's a ramp on the front end. We obviously never saw it in its full glory, but it was there on the interior set. At one point there were also side gullwing doors, but those weren't carried over to the interior.
