The Aries is being sent on its first mission into the Triangle, a diplomatic mission with a political officer that already has the Captain on edge. It's just a few week haul into the Triangle. Everything should be just fine...

This cover is a send off to one of my favorite DC comics covers from the 90s. The Triangle map was done by n3aak over on Reddit for their Star Trek Adventures campaign in the 24th Century (used with permission), before I butchered it for the background. Definitely going to update it for the 23rd Century version though as it's really well done!

Issue 3 starts next week!

Is she the same diplomat that was assigned to Kirk during the second DC Comics run?

Yes but much younger. That was 2287-ish and we're sitting in 2265 at the moment.

It's one of my favorite runs of Trek comics.

The DC runs of Star Trek comics were fantastic. I didn't mind the Marvel series from after TMP, but I think DC's run that started after TWOK was just a better series. They created a lot of really cool characters that only appear in their runs of comics.

Dual Phase II warp cores? Reminds me of Bill Krause giving Titan/ Shangri-La dual impulse crystals to make it more of a Hot Rod. That's gotta be one powerful and fast little ship.

Part of my thinking is that the two 'mini' cores power both the engines and the ship. They can operate with just one but it cuts their warp power in half. But yeah, definitely fast and her weapons, though few, pack a punch. Her impulse engines are about the size of the ones on the Constitution but she's only 5 decks and 2 of those include the bridge and the cargo bay.

It's similar to a multi core processor. The cores help spread the work out among themselves to make your computer faster without increasing clock speed. However, the loss of one core would drastically cut down your performance.

Still better than being dead in the water with no core at all.

Better than the couple times Voyager "lost" their warp core and nobody thought to use the second one that not only is there a hatch for, but also that appears on the MSD.

The only question I have is how a Tellarite and an Andorian would know what a jackal mastiff is. I realize that dogs can exist on other planets as humans would undoubtedly take animals to other planets, but that's still a very human level of knowledge of Earth animals.

Jackal Mastiff's are those Klingon dogs they used in Star Trek VI at Rura Penthe.

Ha! shows what I know about dog breeds. I thought it was a real breed. Never mind then. ;)

Oh and who is in charge on that ship? Just because Enterprise kinda established that Orion society is in fact a matriarchy even if the whole universe thinks otherwise.

Definitely the guy. While it may be matriarchal, nothing says that the men can't rise to some form of power through scheming or otherwise. He's got a good overall plan and has people loyal to him as long as he gets results. He's also just the leader of this particular ship. There are others in his overall group, he's just very ambitious.
