3DU.S.S. Asclepius

It's been a while since I graced this site, so I thought I would reveal my current project, which I've been pretty upbeat about. Interiors seem to be my forte, and I find it difficult treading outside my comfort zone, so the following renders are a decent sampling of my latest endeavor.

The Asclepius falls within the era of Voyager, hence much of the design styling, but I've made some improvements and/or design evolution to common elements. The vessel class is a medical ship, not too dissimilar to the likes of the Olympic Class, and it's primary purpose is to render aid on a large scale, or supplement combat groups in battle.

Yep, I'm definitely getting Voyager vibes, especially in that sickbay. Any plans for an exterior (ship design) later on, or is this purely going to be an interior?

I won't lie, I wish my exterior talents were half as good as my interiors, so to answer your question, yes interiors for now. Those vibes aren't unfounded though, I've been watching a lot of Voyager recently, and I think my idea was born from that. We don't get a lot of hospital ships thrown about in the Star Trek world, at least not from a modelling standpoint, so when I get more room spaces modelled, I'll have to try my hand at a proper cutaway to get a sense of room arrangements and such. I don't know, maybe I'll try to throw together an exterior model, just to get a sense of where my interiors come into play, but I'm not committing to that until I get more interior content completed.

Very cool looking! The color scheme works great for a medical ship, and I like the different styles and props you've got going around the biobed.

Deckplans have always suggested there were more extensive medical facilities and wards on board, which we never saw because of the budget constraints, and the feasibility of building such sets.

So it would be nice to see a Medical ships' surgical rooms, recovery areas, testing labs, intensive care, routine wards, as well as the mental health facilities.

Wow, I have to admit that my long absence, while being not planned, has seemed to have drummed up some interest in this posting. I feel bad that what I had initially set out to do, fizzled out rather quickly. I could go into a long, drawn-out explanation of where I've been, so the long and the short of it is this:

    Got sick
    Got better
    Lost my job
Relocated out of state with my family
    Found a new job
Got settled into new job and new home
Work has made me busier than a one-legged man in a butt-kicking contest

Let's just say that I'm still alive (thankfully), and my modelling hobby is still alive, and despite it taking a rather different path, I recently started to go back through the plethora of unfinished projects and as such, this one has been on my radar. I also realized that the last time I worked on this, i made significant changes, so I'm going through it all, regrouping and will try (operative word here) to move forward with new content.

@mdta I agree with your comment and to add to the list, an operating theater as well as conference halls would also work.

To everyone else, thanks again for the support and kind words.

So I've been busy re-working the common corridors. I've changed some things up a bit, left some things the same as before. My next step is to develop sections for creating curved corridors, and then get back into the room spaces.

Have you given any thought to minimising the lines and gaps with the corridors - for cleaning and sterilising.

As well as colour coded lines on the ground for navigation - as well as specific labelling which befits a hospital use - as this is a specialist ship.

It's been a while, a long while actually. A lot has happened in my private life, and being caught up in it as such, I'd been lax in my hobby. A recent conversation with another member got me thinking and what I'd been kicking around of late, so I'll leave you with these couple of renders. I've been slimming down the scope of my work to smaller things...works out better that way.

I don't quite get the reference, but I'll take your word for it.

The Lower Decks cartoon uses bunk beds like that, though less comfy.

I know, but I can't bring myself to get into the latest shows. Call me a purist, but I prefer to hang around in the past.

I guess they are inspired by the bunks on the Defiant than.

Actually, it's circular inspiration. The Defiant's bunk beds are loosely based on real-life US Naval bunks, and my bunk design is based on an approved design presented to the US Navy years ago and implemented in the USS Somerset, but with a touch of Starfleet (added round corners, service panels, drawers, etc). I researched the functionality of this design, with the upward sweep at the head of the bed to allow for crew to sit up, and in turn, have a small shelf with lighting which I felt made sense for crew to relax more in their bunk, as space can be at a premium onboard a ship (in either time period). I still have some refinements to do, but I believe this design is sound.
