ok you're probably all sick of seeing the Rising Star..i know i am...i fiddled with some streaky alpha maps i made in Designer, tinted some more ...and made the ship more blue like it should be and tried a bit less roughness. What do ya'll think? Feeling pretty good that i can leave it for a while...panels
ugly as hell ship from the colonial fleet, only really made for distant filler...they tore apart a scale model of the Space 1999 Eagle ship. Someone also made a fan model of it...no idea if the underside is accurate, but at least they posted some photos 😄
hopefully to plow through it next week and finish it..just a few more things to make on the top, and a couple things to invent.
japetus.....your work is good...but the models are lacking in realism. Send me a copy of your Rising Star...I'll fix it..send it back to you. That way you can study the lighting, material setups, and apply them to the rest of your builds.

I appreciate the offer, what program do you work in? I bet if I lit these models in the bsg style they would look more to your taste. They are more brightly lit from hdr than I normally would. I'm also going off photos of the scale models and not adding a bunch of extra panels or detail....for the most part.
It used be Lightwave but now it's more 3ds max and maya. HDRI in space is a waste of time....unless your in a lit hanger dock. I was just kinda asking permission to tweak your models a little bit. I think their good, and just want them to pop out in the visuals a little more... like the image below I just rendered from my workstation...

As an Administrator of this forum...I thought people like you were fair and just, as an administrator should be.
I was just trying to help out a fellow artist with some advanced lighting and material setup's...Yet you come on here, and try and belittle me....with your fancy little laughing out loud gifs.
And please, @Alan E - MR COMCO is my father. Call me Comco.
My response was due to my incredulity as to how out there your post was, mate. I've been around this community for a long time and I honestly can't remember ever hearing someone tell another member to send their models over so they could make them better.
An offer to assist if they want it is entirely fair - and encouraged! That's the entire point of this community. That typically starts with tips - a 'have you tried doing x to get better results with y' sort of thing. Sometimes screenshots are shared. Hell, occasionally people will stream what they're working on to show how they do it. But going straight to 'send me your models and I'll make them better' is...So many words come to mind...Which to use...Presumptuous? Arrogant? Rude? Uncouth? Outrageously, laughably inappropriate? Let's go with all of the above.

Screen savers!!!
I think I'll move onto the "triangle ship" next
Lipstick on a pig!
I like the Space 1999 Eagle cargo pod in the middle of the 'ugly' model.

Show me your best battlestar.....??? MR COMCO
It reads a blunt & un-polite, not as constructive, as you intended. My 2¢
It was blunt but truthful.
