PracticalAnother DS9 "Frankenfleet" Ship

BolianAdmiralBolianAdmiral1114 Torrance, CaliforniaPosts: 2,560Member
So, I decided to strip and repaint another one of my old 1/537 refit saucers, mostly to practice brush painting and masking with. I decided to make it up as the saucer of some unseen DS9 "frankenfleet" ship, so parts from other old kits and various other bits and bobs will be added to it. But this is where she's at now.

Oh man, I love the Jupp! I quite like what you did with the decals around the neck area.

Nice, are you going to build the whole kit-bash fleet?

If I have enough parts, aye, I’ll at least try. I’d definitely love to do the Bradford and the Trieste, both Miranda variants.

Using that copper color is a nice, unique idea.

Nice, the Curry Class has to be my fav out of the DS9 Frankenstinfleet.
I do plan to build her in Blender once I have done the Enterprise-B.

I look forward to following this build.

    Coing along nicely!

Quick question: Where did this piece come from? Looks familiar, but I can't put my finger on it.

That is the underside of the shuttle from the older style enterprise refit kit, it came in the kit starting after Star Trek 5 I think.

Almost done. I know the paint along the saucer rim is sloppy...I’m in the process of touching it up, so it’ll all be smoothed out.

I've never understood why they didn't use Excelsior (or Ambassador, even?) nacelles on that. The unscaled Constitution Refit engines make no damned sense.

Yeah... if they had used the 1/1000 Reliant kit nacelles & impulse engine, then literally everything on the ship would be in proper scale. Of course, the 1/1000 Reliant kit hadn't been made yet when the episode was filmed. If they had used the original Excelsior kit's native nacelles, this ship would become TRULY puzzling, because then it would basically be using 100% stock Excelsior parts on it, which begs the question of why the yard teams would bother to rearrange the components, rather than just retain the standard stock Excelsior configuration, lol.

This looks great I have to say... good job with it... but seriously.... how many of these kits have you got lying around man??? I've just bought a couple of old trek amt model kits they are 1. Dam hard to find and 2. Flipping expensive.... :)

The next time I do any kitbash, I’m definitely airbrushing the paint, no matter how much of a pain in the arse it is... I’m just not that happy with my brush painting skills.
