3DAlaska-Class Starship

So, ThePhxRises has been kind enough to take on the commission for the Alaska-Class Starship, from the old blueprint sheet from the convention days of yore. As far as I'm aware, nobody has ever modeled this ship, in CGI or physical media, so it looks like we're the first. Here are the first batch of WIP images. You can contact ThePhxRises for commissions here:

Would i be wrong in thinking that she is some sort of Excelsior variant?

I think that was at least partially the intention, as she uses Ingram nacelles.

Interesting design, though not sure I'm a fan of that secondary hull shape.

Heh, I don't know that I am either, lol. It's a weird shape to model, and I'm not even a big fan of how it looks.

Overall I think the design works, though.

Dear Who Ever Decided To Use a Connie Deflector Dish When Designing This:

We are not letting you live this down. Ever.

Because it is just not working.

There is a reason that the producer ignored FASA, and made a brand new design for the Ent-C.

On the other hand, the use of 4 pairs of mega-phasers-that's a brave choice...

It really is an odd duck of a ship, but in a way, that’s why I like it, lol... then again, I’m the guy who also loves the Yeager and Elkins, lol. Like I told ThePhxRises, all we’ve ever seen of this ship is a pretty crudely drawn set of 2D views, and as is obvious, she’s a hodgepodge of a ship... so I’m just really curious to see how well the design and form translates into 3D, as a real “physical” ship.

'Tis an interesting beast you have there, but she is coming along well. I think this is case of seeing how the final version looks in 3D.

Thanks, but remember, ThePhxRises is the one modeling the ship, so yes, she makes a very nice ship!

I'm really liking the look of this. She's really taking shape. The detail work is very crisp. Love the sweep of the pylons and the neck.

Thanks! I've actually made quite a bit more progress on the detailing since those images.

New WIP pics. We decided to put some areas of blue on the bottom of the secondary hull, kinda like the Excelsior.

Great work on such a forced original design. This is from that old poster, correct? I have a copy of that somewhere.

Thanks to ThePhxRises! I always wanted to see what this design would look like in 3D, and now that I do, it definitely works better in 3D than 2D. It's a workable ship, for sure. She's just kind of an odd jumble of Excelsior and Constitution bits. Here's a few more images of the basically finished ship.

    She looks great!
My unique niptick is about the external megaphasers, which looks weird... They could be integrated into the hul, but... since the mesh is faithfull to the original plans, I understand the megaphasers needs to stay where they are. ;)

Trek ships always look weird to me fully lit up, given that we never really see them that way.

Turned out nice! I quite like the name/registry details on the secondary hull.

Unsurprisingly, she is well-armed. My favorite other part has to be the neck. I just love the way that it curves down.

Since she has a 5 digit registry, I'd be tempted to give her collimated phaser arrays, rather than phaser banks, to better reflect her apparent construction, which would be smack-dab in the middle of TLE, when Ambassadors reined supreme.

And I would not go with USS Nelson for her name, since it is such a commonly used name, in both fanon and beta canon. There are other admirals in history whose names are not used as often, but just as worthy. Not that the Wellington class is pretty, but she does exist...

In a screen shot or in a show or movie, yes self lit is good but for schematics & ortho u need it lit up so u can see the detail of the ship
