Nice texturing job so far I'm curious, did you just eyeball the whole thing? When I was researching the Excelsior blueprints were in short supply.
Thanks!
I used this image from Ex Astris Scientia as a pseudo side orthographic projection. It was pretty useful for the saucer and secondary hull profiles, but I had to adjust the nacelles because they are enlarged due to perspective. The rest was eyeballing from photos and screencaps. I use "landmarks" (like in figure drawing) to try to get the proportions down as best I can. I've never found a useful set of blueprints; they usually have too many errata and I don't know which one to trust.
For this image I used the model of the space dock I built for Bridge Commander and converted the materials to work with Corona. I also added new lighting that played nicely with the render engine. A studio quality model of the space dock is definitely in the works, but I need a new computer to handle what is sure to be a beast of a model.
I love the Galaxy-Class, but I have to say that IMO, the Excelsior is the most regal looking Federation ship. She just exudes weight and dignity, but also silent power.
Thank you! I never completed the textures for the exterior, but it was sure fun to fly around the interior in-game.
Imagine Kirk finding this waiting for him in dry dock...
It's funny that you should say this, as that was exactly what happened in DC's Star Trek Volume 1 series following the destruction of the Enterprise in The Search for Spock. From #9, through to when they aligned to The Voyage Home, the Enterprise crew had transferred to the USS Excelsior.
It's very weird (but cool) to see the Excelsior on the unmodified TMP dock. Did you have to scale the dock up, or did it fit with the same size as the Enterprise?

And don't forget that dialog about Sulu taking command of the Excelsior that they cut out of TWoK. It's during the travel pod ride to the Enterprise.

Believe it or not that's to scale. The Excelsior is too big for the dry dock, but only just, so it doesn't look totally ridiculous in there.

Nice job dude. I do see some issues with the shape, but no point in listing them out here I'm curious, why did you go with the grey color like that?
Thank you! The folks at ILM painted the bits on the Excelsior blue because they knew it would look metallic gray on film. I actually used the blue color from the model, I just lowered the color saturation to make it look like it does on the screen.

Secondary hull is finished. I need to do the pylons and nacelles and I can wrap this up.

Well she's finished. The NCC version will be done in the not-too-distant future. I also want to create the pool area at some point.
Thanks for looking!
