    Looking great, Rekkert. :)

    The bridge may also look bigger because there are no stations sticking out of the side walls or chairs (yet.) There's realistically more space to move around in without that stuff.

    @kaden: Thanks! :)

    @evil_genius_180: Yeah, that's a good point. It's only lacking two more consoles, and the only chairs missing are from the conn/ops consoles; so in that sense I guess it'll keep looking very big. :p

    @Aresius: Glad you think so!

    @Brandenberg: Why thank you very much!

    Here's another little commission I've been doing on-and-off this last month: the bridge for the Akyazi-Class USS Tioga NCC-1063. This is how it looked like in the 2330's, 40 years into the ship's lifespan; so the consoles, colors, and aesthetics are more in line with the Enterprise-C than with the TMP era.

    This means TNG style conn/ops stations and red labels, and a much more colorful color pallet for the LCARS, among other things. Hope you like it!

    I actually had an idea for an Akyazi-class bridge. It would be a redress of your Dilligent bridge with Enterprise-C style displays. Instead of the split TNG helm/nav, I would have gone for a TFF/TUC Enterprise-A combined helm/nav console, and lose the two forward facing standing consoles (perhaps put a tactical station a la Shockley / NCC-1974 Constellation instead.

    Well, this week has certainly been interesting... Several commissions I've been doing are on-hold as some of my clients are suddenly without income or would rather save what they have, which is totally understandable. That means that some of the projects I'd been spending time on won't be shared for the time being (don't worry, the Orion bridge is still moving forward).

    Plus, as more and more people are staying in their houses here, the local Internet infrastructure is starting to collapse, hence I've been having longer periods without service every day. Today the whole country has officially entered a state of mandatory quarantine until the end of the month, so that will probably get worse. Still, a small price if more cases can be prevented by the measure. I'm healthy myself but I live with an immunosuppressed family member, so we're taking extra precautions at home.

    Mentally I'm very much drained, and the constant outages mean I can't even game for a while to recharge. It's even been raining so I can't work on the backyard... So, what else but to model something to keep the spirits up? I had the idea of turning my Potemkin interiors into their TMP era counterparts, but rather than using the Potemkin itself, why not modify them for the actual USS Excelsior...? But before I can do that, I'll have to work on the bridge...

    tadeo-d-oria-c1-01.jpg?1584701717

    Very early stages as you can see. The ceiling is completely new, as are the buttresses. Given how vertical the wall consoles are on this bridge when compared to the Hathaway/Enterprise-C style consoles I've used on the Constellation and others, the buttresses aren't as angled as they were on those bridges, and thus they don't stick out as much.

    I certainly give no guarantee of keeping working on this one continuously, I'd keep at the commissions I have going if my Internet allows, but it's very much dependent on things outside of my control.

    For now, keep safe everyone.

    Love that you're making the best of the situation and you're using your art as a valve to keep a level head!
    BTW: Also consider using the time to explore ideas you like, maybe adding elements to your parts library as you go (console types, chairs, ceilings, ...).

    @evil_genius_180: Thanks! Yeah, I've got other commissions going though, it's mostly having to stop and go that's tiring and stressful.

    @lennier1: Indeed, that's why I'm doing the Excelsior, to try out new things with its interiors later down the line, I've got some plans already. :)

    @Aresius: Thanks. I'm from Argentina.

    Some more work on the Excelsior. Besides some material and light changes, I've heavily reworked the wall consoles I already had created for the Odyssey bridge in order for them to fit in with the frame here. I'm not exactly sure how accurate they ended up being, it seems every time I try to correct an issue with them, two more popped up, but given the limited accurate data I have they seem to be correct. I'd love to have some construction blueprints of this one... All the buttresses and some of the consoles are also placed off center intentionally, just as they were on the set.

    @Rekkert - Don't forget the Excelsior helm and nav have that little extra thing with the support and console as seen here: movies.trekcore.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pid=52620&fullsize=1. Also, keep in mind that they DO have some clickety-click physical push buttons!

    Dude, that's looking fantastic. I love the Excelsior bridge from Star Trek VI. Really, I love anything about the Excelsior. But, that bridge design is just the best, in my opinion. I really love the harsher metallic look with the blue accents and how they put in the TNG-style consoles for some nice continuity.

    Nice work, you inspired me to re-watch the VOY “Flashback” episode. I always liked Sulu’s stand in front of his captain’s chair and I’m a fan of those station chairs.

    @Rusty0918: I know, I haven't forgotten anything. :p

    @evil_genius_180: I wish they would've used something different than the TNG consoles, but the modifications do work in making them look a bit more archaic. And overall yeah I wholeheartedly agree, the Excelsior is one of my favorite bridges.

    @JMP11: Yeah I love the little stands in front of both the Excelsior's and Enterprise's chairs in TUC, a little detail that makes them look a bit more like real working environments (overall TUC's is probably the best aesthetic in that regard).

    Like I mentioned before I had to modify the consoles I had from the Odyssey in order to fit into the Excelsior, making them taller and wider; something which shouldn't be the case as they should be the exact same ones. After discussing things with Donny and comparing notes, I've come to the conclusion that they were accurate before (so, they're accurate on the Odyssey, Yeager, and other bridges I already did), and it was the ceiling height I had on the Excelsior that was the problem. Essentially, I made it too tall, so now I'll have to bring the ceiling (and doors) down some 20cm, and everything should fit in properly without having to modify the Odyssey consoles. More work, in a sense, but having modified those consoles when I shouldn't have needed to was driving me mad, I knew that something had to be off.

    In the meantime, I've finished another small commission: a modification of my USS Cerberus bridge for one of its sister ships, the USS Temeraire NCC-80983. It's identical in aesthetic, it just tweaks some details around. Most notably, there's a new pair of doors flanking the viewscreen, replacing 4 of the perimeter stations.

    The other big change is the command seating. The Captain's chair is moved forward, and a rail with a new standing console is placed behind it. The two flanking seats are moved closer to the Captain's, and are provided small consoles of their own for the XO and specialist to use. The floor on this area is also modified somewhat, with the steps moved forward to offer more space for the command crew to walk to their seats. Hope you like it!

    .Love how your bridge is far superior to what the show's limitations allowed and you've still managed to retain the essence of theirs.

    I'm really digging the XO and specialist consoles; they seem much more functional than the armrest type.

    Yeah, budgets are a pain in the backside. They pilfer whatever they can to save some money here so they can put it there.

    Very nice. I’m loving the blend of Voyager and 1701-E styles on this bridge... they mesh together much better than I thought they would.

    @lennier1: Haha, thanks!

    @furswift: Thanks! Took a while to get those little consoles to look like they belonged with the rest of the bridge while also leaving room for the user to sit on the chair. :p

    @evil_genius_180: Thanks very much!

    @BolianAdmiral: Yeah, same here. I'm itching to do a more Voyager/Dauntless color pallet for these pieces though, I think they'd look great in those colors.

    Progress on another, very similar commission: the Akira-Class USS Sun Wukong (I can't believe it took me 3 years to do an Akira!). Very much a light redress on the Ross bridge, this one incorporates a Voyager-style bench for the Captain and two guests; plus a three person console behind it. There was no way to make the ramps work without the "horseshoe", so I replaced them with steps and some railing. I still have to do the LCARS, as you can see.

    Nice looking console behind the captain's chair, but how low to the floor is the captain's chair? It just seems really low to me.

    Love this bridge and including elements from Voyager really works.

    @evil_genius_180 I was hoping to see some in Picard. Alas it was just the same ship copied and past job. :(

    @evil_genius_180: Thanks! Agreed, it's not only very good looking, it's also so unique yet still very much fitting with the rest of the fleet.

    @JMP11: It sits at exactly the same height as it does with the regulat stand, I modeled it that way back when I did the Budapest. It just looks lower due to the wider base. :)

    @Freak: Thanks! Regarding the Picard scene, yeah it was really underwhelming, but then again the VFX artist mentioned on Instagram that they only finished working on the final episode last week, and with the whole COVID-19 situation they lost a lot of time. According to Chabon, four distinct designs were intended for appearance, they just couldn't get them done in time. :(

    A small update (literally) for today, I've done the LCARS for the consoles at each side of the Captain's chair.

    Yeah that just a BS excuses for doing a copy and past job.
    If they wanted a different designs in that fleet and did not have time to build new ones. They could have used TNG era ship. Some Galaxy Class, Sov, Akira, Defiant etc. The Models are all built and at quality good enough to render out at 4K. They just need to get the files, people in the industry like Tobias Richter has them.
    As for Covid-19 issues, not really an issue. The scene set up can be done at home low res so not to over takes their PC. Once ready to actually do the final version they just connect to effect house render farm to render it out at full res. Okay it a bit more complacted than that, but the majority of the work can be done from home.
    This is why a lot of effect work is still being done on other show, even though the effect houses has sent everyone home to work from there.

    To be fair, speaking as someone in IT who is working from home more than half the time right now, My home machine kicks the crap out of my work laptop cause I built it for gaming, but I have to remote into the work machine to do work, and the internet has been so flip-floppy for me in my area. I can only imagine a more congested area where the effects houses are.

    That WILL slow things down. It has for me doing little IT things here and there, for full blown effects work it would be maddening. I can't imagine setting up renders or working on meshes, etc on my work machine through this unstable internet connection.

    The bridge for the USS Sun Wukong looks very nice, especially the console behind the command bench. Would look nice if they were both incorporated into one unit, perhaps a sister ship's bridge variation.

    @ashleytinger not really. Like you said your home machine is better than your work one.
    Same case with me (mine was just a cheap of the shelf machine bought in the last few years.) and I sure that the case with them. They would only need to use to internet to upload/ download the files they need to created a scene then upload them to the render farm and kick it off. Once done they can download it and send it to the editor to edit into the episode / film. There is very little online work for this sort of thing.

    Robert Mayer Burnett has been talking about this a lot since LA went into LOCKDOWN.

    Fair, but again, internet speed issues. I think they just ran out of time and said F it.

    @Nevets: Thanks! Yeah, I originally wanted to have the console be connected directly to the bench, to have a more organic look; but I just couldn't make it look right. The advantage of this separated look is that the console is now reusable without having to take the bench with it. :)

    @Freak: Yeah, it's never that easy, particularly if you're working with international contractors as they (and I think most production companies these days) are.

    First of all, the decision of which ships to use, concept art and all that was already done a while in advance if we extrapolate from other known production timeframes. So to just "grab the models from TNG" at the last possible second would implicate a huge change that would have to be approved at the top, not to mention that bringing in third party models like what they did for TNG-R requires legal contracts to be drafted and all that fun stuff, it's absolutely not a quick thing to do. This is something Ben Robinson of Eaglemoss mentioned in an interview, having access to 3D models and being cleared for using them in a production is absolutely not the same thing.

    Second, there are things that are beyond the artists control. Case in point, I'm involved with a company for a specific project I'm working on (nothing Trek related). This involves regular updates and working on a schedule. After the whole Covid-19 situation started escalating, we started to fall behind. Not because I was having troubles, but because the people overseeing and giving feedback were. Suddenly a whole business used to being in an office had to adapt to working from home, and that took a whole two weeks out of production and coordination with the international crew. I see it as entirely plausible that that could've been an issue here.

    Thirdly, having worked at network security for half a decade before shifting to 3D modeling and having seen how the local net infrastructure of some related companies is arranged; it's also entirely possible that the lead VFX artists who compose the final shots could only do so at location. Hence in order to give them access to their render farm from their home would require changes to their infrastructure, or at the very least to their firewall policies. This is something else that could (and I know from experience does) take time away production.

    Finally, as @ashleytinger already pointed out, bad internet is a thing; and now more than ever the world's Internet infrastructure is taking a hit. As I already mentioned in post #2618 I haven't had a single day with 24hs service for the last 10 days. If you're working internationally and someone responsible for a model is suddenly left without internet for 3 days, that's 3 days you lose and can't do anything about it.

    I would've loved to see them use old ships or less "copy-paste" designs; but it is what it is, and given the whole mess that's going around right now, I think it's completely understandable why things ended up being as unfinished as they were, even if that's disappointing for fans who obsess over those details such as ourselves.

    More LCARS work. I just have to do the Akira graphics for the MSD and this bridge will be done.
