3DScifieric's 2019 USS Enterprise

edited January 2020 in Work in Progress #1
I lost my tutorial Enterprise in a mirrored RAID hard drive crash. Both drives failed.

So, I am working on a new model and I intend to make it more accurate than the Tutorial ship.

I've only just started, but here is the progress thus far.

As stated above, so clean. I’m always blown away by what the folks here can do with Blender.

Sucks to hear about the array. They just do not seem to make hdw as well as they used to. Still have drives from the 90s that work. Modern stuff, Meh lasts 2yrs at most now. Or worse lasts up to one write on the sectors if that then dies.

I'm with you on that one! Some of my slow, old drives are still going. These are about two years old. Go figure. Nice to see you around, man!

Oddly, even though I've been thinking throughout the week about how much I wanted to work on the model, when the weekend got here (I've been on call all week) I was too tired!

But, I changed the angulation and placement of the pylons and changed the positioning of the temporary warp engines. I did a couple of quick test renders to see how they compared with screen captures, even though I have no idea about the camera type nor the lenses used in the original series. Anyway, I figure they're close enough to warrant continuing. But, I'm open to opinions.

The next two images show that I am making both the pilot version(s) and the production version(s).

Looking great, Eric. Damn shame to hear about the drive crash. I back all my 3d stuff up to the cloud these days. I can't bare the thought of losing all the stuff I've built and accumulated over the years. :)

Same, everything I do is off a OneDrive, it's definitely worth doing. Model looks spot on too, very clean geometry.

@scifieric : Sorry about your drive crash. Thumb drives are so cheap now, I keep 3 copies of everything because...
    I've had crashes too :#

Thank you, my friend! I am hoping to make this the most accurate version I've ever made.

I am very sorry to hear it. Yeah, I had a mirrored external drive, and both of those drives crashed without warning. I have a new drive from a more expensive manufacturer that I've always had luck with at work, and I'm going to back this one up on other media. I'm not without a model, I just want one that is more accurate than the one I made two iterations ago.

Are you basically going for a "4k" version similar to what Marc Bell has done with some of his Trek stuff with the level of detail?
