Starting to get in to texturing now, I've had some gret help from @McC on mapping and such like and now I can start to apply textures without having to do everythingmnually in photoshop. This is some very basic panelling just to get a feel for how it works. I'm keen to keep the panelling effect VERY subtle, probably more subtle than it is now.

Having been working away for a few months I've not been able to get at blender, so to get myself back in the groove I thought I'd model something a bit simpler than the Akira. A Type-6 shuttle seemed like a good idea so here's where I am so far. I'll use this as a simpler test bed to learn a bit about texturing before going back to the Akira when I'm more confident.

The shuttle looks great so far. I think you maybe might want to elongate the nacelles just a tad more forward, but it could just be the angle I’m looking at.

You were right, they wanted inching forward just a tad. Since the first pic I've moved them up and out a bit too just to make it sit a bit more squat. Just started fleshing the back out...

Very nice, I love the Type 6 shuttle. Plus, it's a nice reuse of one of the full scale shuttles from Star Trek V. :) Your model looks fantastic so far.

    That is looking great.
I am also working on my own Type 6 shuttle, Just working on the nacelles at the moments. I want to get them right before moving onto the main body.

Rear door fleshed out a bit, I wanted to do the whole structure of the door as one piece in subd. I'm more than happy with the result.

The nacelles I've not had too much trouble with, it's the cowling things over the body that I can't stop fiddling with. I found some photos of the actual filming minature which might help you out: http://www.starshipmodeler.com/trek/voytech.htm

Like many have said. This is hands down, my favorite of the shuttles in Star Trek. Your work is flawless. Love it.

Decals on, engine glows, and nacelles finished. Need to add a couple more tiny detail bit then I'm done. I might add a rough interior too just so I can make the windows slightly translucent.

That's some really nice work on the materials. The subtle paneling is excellently done.

I'm not sure the first render WAS a bit much. Wasn't a lot of the visual panel emphasis having to do with specular highlights because of the angle of the shot? Anyway, a fine home for your fine shuttle.
