This Ship was used in the Comic, "Riders of the Void". way back in 1980... Google it, you'll find it. I read the comic when it first came out and couldn't get it out of my head, finally saw it again today. So started a new Thread for it.

Thought you might enjoy...

    You mean this one?

    http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Star_Wars_38:_Riders_in_the_Void

The ship looks cool so far. I like the design.

Yep, that's the one. Kind of a cross between Star Wars, Star Trek, and Alien. Loved it. There are a couple of places I have seen the Comic online today.

Amazon has the omnibus volumes of the early Star Wars comics available for the Kindle. Huge volumes, only $10 (USD.) I'm thinking of getting them. Riders in the Void is in volume 2.

Some more work on it. Any thoughts on what it's called?

    Here is a ref image:

I'm thinking the antenna rotates up between the two halves of the hull.

Looking good! Great idea to flush out some of the old Marvel Star Wars stuff, lots of great material there, I was a big fan (although I really didn't start buying in until just before ROTJ :) )!

Loved that artwork in that issue, still one of my favorites. Wasn't that the same artist who did Micronauts?

That's looking really good so far. I especially like how the boarding ramp is designed.

Wookieepedia literally just calls it an odd U shaped star ship.

Nice, wasn't sure about it at first as it looks like a bit of a lame design on first glance, but looking at how you're fleshing this out, it could be quite interesting. Your interior art pages also show there is quite a bit more detailing to the original artwork for this design too, so yeah, will be watching this with interest.

    :thumb:

Only iffy thing with the design as it stands so far is that the landing gear struts rise up into the hull and intersect exactly where you'd expect the engines to be seeing as the thruster nozzle is directly behind it, so you might have to do a bit of creative license with the design on that detail and perhaps shift either the thruster nozzle or the gear slightly to one side so they don't intersect.

    Wow, Lots to talk about...

Stonky: I agree lots of creative stuff in the old comics.

Knight26: I believe you are correct, Michael Golden wrote and penciled #38 and he created the Micronauts comic series . I had quite a collection of the toys back then...

evil_genius_180: Maybe we can figure it out then... Looks like a cross between the Falcon and a YWing...

TALON_UK: well... hope I can keep your interest then, I agree with what you are saying about the engines. In fact, I had moved the landing gear forward and away from the rear of the ship already, just cant see it too well in those renders, the new ones may help, Creative license firmly in hand as I proceed with the rest of the ship...

Here are some concerning room for the motors...

    aoeqdmu3g9du.jpg
    dizrdtwq1ia4.jpg

It is tight but I think it works, the original comic had the gear in the four corners...

Also taking my license to the max with the workings of the bridge, It looks like there is only a pilot seat in the images I have seen so, this is what I'm coming up with.

    4cjomtyk2hx7.jpg
    1a71tbo1cdct.jpg

    And some general progress renders...

    j04wok8apqoe.jpg
    jjtv0z1v4hda.jpg

It looks like mine is a little flattened not quite as tall as the original

Nice job on everything. The cockpit is looking especially nice so far. It's definitely a tight fit for the engines and landing gear, but it should work.

It's got a "Pod Racer In Spaaaaace" kinda feel to it. Which isn't a bad thing at all! A bit like an angular version of Grievous' "I wanna be a Corvette in Space" personal shippie from Ep. III.

Nice work so far, and, yeah, the original artists from the various comics didn't always (read: ever) think about function as regards to form.

As long as there's not a 9-year-old Anakin flying it and saying "Now *this* is pod racing!" we're fine. ;)

Love where you're going with the details so far; I always enjoy watching people flesh out these lesser known comic and rpg designs.

The only thing I'm not sold on is the curvy upper deck / cockpit -- it looks a bit like someone slapped half of a car on top of the hull! Have you considered making it a little more angular like the Y-Wing (since you already have the Y-Wing-esque engines on the back it stands to reason you'd see more such design cues)?

I thought it was an impulse deck when I first saw this.

Nice job on the paneling. :)

Thanks so much, first time I actually created paneling in geometry usually use a bump or displacement map...

Heh, I wish my early attempts to do paneling with geometry looked this good.

If you got any tips or tricks on making it less labor intensive, I would surely appreciate it!

As far as I know, there's no quick and easy way to make panels. It's always a lot of work.

It's going good so far. The good news is, it's not like you have to rush on it. It's your project and you can go at your pace. :)
